    Winter bib & brace

Credit to Dickie Longmuir for putting me onto JW. My first one lasted many years. I bought it’s replacement 2 years ago but the it has taken until now for the old one to leak👍

    Winter bib & brace

Hi Steve. Sorry late onto this, but may help others. I tested new ESP quilted salopettes in relentless rain all day at the end of last month along with a Jack Wolfskin coat and stayed dry and warm all day, plus the ESPs have that all important zip lower down. Taking off my coat that day simply...

    RIP Martin Hooper

Very sad to read this. Only met Martin once on LB, very open and chatty. Knowing his reputation, I even raised the subject of his abrasiveness. He took it well and we had a chuckle about it. I’ll now have to read his book again, for the third time I think. RIP Martin.

I recall that spot too Steve - a sunny afternoon expecting nothing but had 3 on corn. Great swim👍

    Lesson Learnt. Rod Posting

Sorry to hear about your courier experience Graham🙁. The list of restrictions left me wondering what is the point of UPS?Around us Hermes have a reputation for being hopeless - lucky if you receive your goods at all, broken or otherwise. I’ve received quite a few rods via courier over the years...

    Waterproof Recommendations

Jack Wolfskin jacket and Berghaus over trousers, both looking very well worn but both still totally waterproof. Bought replacements on good discounts over a year ago thinking they were likely to need replacing soon - both still unused.

Merry Christmas from Barbel Fishing World

Happy Christmas everyone. Thanks Andy and your team for what remains the best forum and not just for barbel.

    Whats your PB?

Some great fish and posts here, a real treat to see. No great shakes as a barbel fisher, but my best is a 13-11 from St. Pat’s taken on chub gear, a 12-09 from the Loddon, but my favourite was a 12-04 from St. Pat’s because I caught it on a rolled bait. 15 in a day from the Wye was also a bit...

    Helicopter rigs

Yes, a pva bag good for avoiding tangles to. I only use a short anti-tangle sleeve, but it’s the fluoro that really keeps me out of trouble. I’m mostly on shallow lakes at range which minimises the angle of the line off the back of the rig, so I am able to fish very tight lines.

    Helicopter rigs

Yes Cliff. I often fish buoyant plastic mags with or without real ones directly on the hook. A knotless knot with a small hook on fluoro is a very reliable hooker. However, I have also used a T-rig with an in-line maggot feeder for tench and carp which also works very well.

    Helicopter rigs

Hi Graham. Use heli rigs a lot for tench, bream plus carp that come along. Definitely hook above feeder. Just use stops with no beads or sink tube, and just a small swivel with a small anti tangle sleeve to kick a 4” fluoro hook length away from the main line so no tangles. Simple and reliable...

    Crucians only

Marsh Farm day ticket holders cannot fish overnight when the fishery gates are locked. See the Godalming AS website for opening/closing times and rules. Not aware of any overnight parking spots nearby, but Apollo Angling on site may be able to advise. They are also the best point of contact for...

    Crucians only

GAS member and fished Marsh a lot Wayne. Float fishing close to pads with caster or sweet soft pellet good, although a simple soft pellet paste over mini pellets has worked well for me as the light fades. If fishing at range, a method feeder best with buoyant artificials the best baits in my...

    Lead style

I’m sure he is Robert, but he and many other carpers appear happy to pave the bottom of the lakes and rivers they fish with deliberately discarded leads. Try explaining that to any perfectly reasonable member of the non-angling public. Please don’t think I’m having a go at your son as I’m sure...

    Club Memberships...how many?

I’m in 4, 2 very big, one mid-size and one very small (handy for escaping the masses), plus AT and the Tenchfishers.

    Daylight hours fishing.

I used to fish a small southern river. At first barbel were plentiful and relatively easy to catch in the day. Over the years it suffered the fate of many similar rivers until we were fishing for far fewer fish. Fishing after dark seemed to become a requirement if you were to catch regularly...

    Help please

Hi David. It’s been a few years, but I can recommend Benhall Farm just across the Wye from Ross. They do self-catering, but Carol and Simon’s B&B is excellent with inexpensive fishing across their fields by arrangement when you book. Check out their website. Good luck with the barbel.
