    Lymm anglers Barbel

Manor Farm is now Bay Malton and still has plenty of barbel. The next stretch downstream is Lymm and should be ok for barbel.

    Lathams internet shop Warning

I have received a rod from them this morning. I added a knot unpicker to the order to get it over £50 and free postage. After 6 working days and no rod I phoned and was promised a call back which never arrived. Next day I phoned again, and after several attempts being left at number 1 in a...

    Okuma interceptor 350

I've got an IBP 340 - just over 12 months old. I've had no problems with the bale arm at any point on its rotation but there is one point where the baitrunner doesn't work - the line roller is closest to the rod handle. I rarely use the baitrunner except to give myself line when rebaiting or...

    Your first barbel

Late 70s at Ironbridge. Meat on the hook and maggot feeder. Lots of them about 2 lb. I didn't catch another till I returned to fishing after a very long layoff - then it was a 3 3/4 lb fish on the Dane on worm/corn cocktail because I didn't trust these newfangled pellet things.

    Weighmaster scales

I've got a set. They seem accurate once they are zeroed but that isn't easy and the zero seems to move itself over a session.

    BFW 14mm Halips Pellets

I've started using the new Sonubait soft hook pellets (11 mm) - so far I'm very happy with them. I'm feeding hemp and micro pellet but not putting hookbait samples in and have done very well so far considering the low river.

    round landing net

I've got one of these and although the frame is strong it is a loose fit in the spreader block, locked by 2 tiny self tapping screws. These work loose and even when replaced by bigger self tappers the system is not ideal. I'm now at the point where I'll have to drill right through for a small...

    Wychwood Big River Barbel Rod

I bought one of those from Fishtek before Christmas - it is a 2lb tc. I've not used it yet but it feels to have a similar action to my 1.75 Wychwood Rogue. The reel seems smooth and well balanced but the proof will be in the using I suppose - but for £30 + pp it was a bargain.

With a few months left to go.....how has your season been so far ?

I've had a good one so far. Started fishing again in mid July after a 20 year lay off and fished for barbel for the first time since the 70s. I've had nearly 100 barbel, 80 from the Dane but my best has only been 7.4 from the Severn and 6.9 from the Dane. Still hoping to break 7lb on the Dane...
