Martin Salters blog smacks of the AT trying to put a positive spin on a situation, otter predation in rivers, that is unlikely to be resolved. The Avon, Thames, Trent and Wye are ok and otters don't eat barbel... The results of the survey should be used with other data not presented as being...
Chaps, not my neck of the woods but a friend mentioned to me a year or so ago that the EA were proposing to remove some of the Medways weirs for the benefit of returning migratory game fish. Good luck finding out what the EA are up to..
Normally I quite enjoy an argument but not with Ray on this topic :) I couldn't be ar*ed to do all that recording myself but if Ray's seen a pattern forming that he can use to his advantage then that's a nice result for all his work.

Dave,
What diameter is the Fluoro that you're using? I sometimes use the same hooks in a 10 with 12lb Daiwa Infinity Floorit Fluoro using a knotless knot with no problems. I do however tend to tie my hook links at home in good light as opposed to on the bank.

I've got spools of 10lb and 12lb in the cupboard and that's where they'll be staying. Lost two fish on the Avon through breakages, giving them their heads in snag free water, just steady pressure from a correctly set clutch using X-line hooklengths. My traces are pre-tied at home and tested. I...
Paul, the only Drennan rod that I can get a wide drum Speedia on is a an early Ultralight Waggler, with the 'snide' Fuji reel seat that has a longer thread. I presume that your reel is a wide drum as they have a long foot/scoop. You will reduce the value of the reel if you file it down but...
John,
Yes he most certainly did decline.
If you noticed, which I'm sure you did, I wrote "I said to a river keeper..." I didn't say on which river that happened so you can count out the two blokes you're thinking of...:)
So to confirm, the spade stayed in the back of the van :(
Craig,
Above Downton, and as I said I didn't think the rest of the Avon had been so 'lucky' I've read Kevins book and I should imagine his experiences on say the Several Fishery would mirror many other anglers experiences on other stretches ie. lot less fish, lot bigger fish. Personally I can't...
Steve,
No it's a different stretch lower down. I think I know where you mean though. A mate of mine tells me he bumps into keeper when he's doing his shopping who quotes the total of barbel and chub caught from the water he 'looks after' umm I'll leave it at that...
Rhys,
Where I fish on the...
Neil, Regarding The Lesser Spotted Guide, i would be quite happy to see this (sub) species apparent decline turn into full blown extinction. Luckily where I fish on the Wye the one very high profile chap who was allowed to guide managed to get himself slung off the water by abusing that...
