    Weymouth Dorset

The best person to speak to is Brian Wilson on this forum. If you go to the Dorset Stour thread and Private Message him I'm sure you'll get a quick reply. Brian does all the Throop reports and is Throop baliff and has fished the Royalty alot this season. He is a really nice bloke and sure won't...

    Weymouth Dorset

I think the closest is the Hampshire Avon or Dorset Stour. The Royalty in Christchurch is day ticket, though does get busy. Or theres Beat 2 of Throop on the Dorset Stour which has a few good barbel, but people go there mostly for the 6lb plus Chub. That's day ticket too. Matt

    Precision Polaroids help

Hi I have just received my Precision Polaroids (Avon shape) but seem to have a large amount of reflection on the inside of the lens which is a large distraction. I'm wondering whether they may be faulty (and therefore send back for the same Avon model) or it could be due to the lens shape (in...

    Sea Bass

I bought a selection of rubber based lures for the Bass including Red-gills, Sidewinders and the Slug-go's. However I really can't get on with them to be honest as I find I need so much weight to get them any decent distance from the shore but then the weight takes them down too quickly for...

    Big Chub Length/Girth

Thanks for the link Tom. Was very interesting reading. It would be interesting to see whether the monsters caught now are any longer than back in '05 or is it mainly the girth that is greater. Would also be interesting to note the difference between rivers as to the relative size of these larger...

    Big Chub Length/Girth

Hi I have set up this thread as I thought it would be interesting to see if we can get some sort of record of comparitive length/girths of some of these very large Chub that have been coming out of late. Would possibly also help some anglers to 'guesstimate' some fish they may observe in the...

    Chub Rod

Thanks for your replies guys. If it helps I fish the Stour so may encounter v large chub (if i'm lucky) and the odd double figure barbel so the rod needs to be sensitive enough on one hand but have the back bone to handle large fish on the other. I like the look of the Fox rod to be honest and...

    Chub Rod

Hi Been thinking about a specialist Chub rod and have come across a rod that seems ideal but alas they no longer make it seems, the Shimano Technium Specialist. Can anyone recommend a similar rod? Cheers Matt

    chub

Yeah thats what I have been doing to be honest, fishing paste directly on the hook. But similar to Nick Franklin on his post, I have been getting quite a few knocks and pulls but not connecting with anything. I also fish the Stour so don't know whether there's any connection there or just...

    chub

Very interesting reading. I wonder if it would work with paste baits or whether they would simply pull the paste off before taking the hook in. Anyone bolt rig with softer baits with any success? Matt

Thanks for all your replies. Tight lines Matt

    Rigmarole Hydrolink

Thanks for your reply Jas. I managed to straighten it with steam over the kettle, not s'posed to be necessary but heho. I liked the sound of it cos with a inner core of fluoro I figured it would sink better and hug bottom more than most braids, the colour seems more 'gravel like' than most...

    Rigmarole Hydrolink

Hi I've just bought some of this hook-link braid after reading some really good reviews :). Just tied a few rigs but found it appears to have more memory than an African Elephant with a high IQ :(. All the reviews I read before purchase were saying how easy it is to straight with your...

Merry Xmas to everybody here :-)

    chub

I agree that if using quiver tip or touch ledgering that it is obviously important to minimise resistance. What about using back leads to pin the line down? If using back leads, even the clip-on ones when fishing free running rigs wouldn't they have the potential to provide more...

    chub

A few years ago I bumped into Martin B when he was filming for Catching The Impossible. He was touch-legering for chub in 3 ft of gin-clear water. The chub were picking the bait up, taking it completely in their mouths and ejecting it, without him feeling the slightest twitch on his finger. Hugh...

    chub

As in more selective for Chub. More likely to be picked up by a Chub rather than its main competitor for a nice big boilie, the Barbel :)

    chub

Haha had to laugh at that Craig. Weirdly enough thats exactly what I've been thinking along the lines of over the last couple of weeks. I thought I was being pretty leftfield with that one. My theory being that presenting a conventional bait in an unconventional way may give the edge. I...

    chub

Interesting thoughts here guys :). I really don't like using keep nets though and not sure they can be used anyway on the Stour at Throop :( . I'm going to try putting the Chub back a fair few swims away rather than the next one up and see what happens to my catch rate. Do any of you think it...
