Free Spirit have some very nice rods . The spirit barbel is about £130 and a nice bit of Kit. But I also saw one of the Korum ones last week and although I've never used one at £50 they have to worth a look at least. As David said this could go on and one.

I use to fish the Dove but now on the Derwent. I always keep my rod low' some times just above the water but more often level and at a highth sort of level with my chair for easy pick up. I mainly fish close in but as I move firther out if needs be I lift my rod higher to get a little more line...

I use Gumtree a bit and have never had a problem apart from saying "collection only" then being asked how much to post it mate and of cause "Will you take?" I think it is a more local area site rather than national but not sure.

Adam how much salt to seed & water did you use??. I also see that go out doors do a 2kg bucket of PVA friendly particles for about £7 not sure how this might compare.

Theres the Derbyshire Derwent which is not far out of Leicestershire just off J24 of the M1. It may be a bit further than you want to travel.
