For front drag, non baitrunner I'd seriously consider the Okuma Inc6000. Got them on my carp setup and they are a fantastic reel and even better when you consider the price. Obvioulsy a bit bigger than 5000 but they are pretty lightweight so don't feel big.
Thanks for the heads up Graham, I had seen those but was hoping to get the original version with the triple leg rings. I suspect I may end up with the newer ones but will hold out a little longer.
Hi
I'm after a pair of these rods, if you're thinking about selling some please let me have first dibs
Based in Newark but happy to travel to collect
Thanks

Peter - received the PM...
I only really fish the Trent and to date I've been using a couple of old carp rods but feel I now need to treat myself to a nice pair of matching rods. Both the Fox Horizon X4 Barbel and Daiwa Powermesh Barbel in 2.75lb TC seem well respected but has anybody compared them side by side and...
Funnily enough I've literally just joined 2 minutes ago and just seen this thread! There's some lovely quiet stretches to explore once my ticket comes through
Yes it does still get busy, I walk the dog down there most weekends and a couple of times over the summer they were practically queing for a peg (likewise on the opposite bank for A1 pits)
I've been lucky in that I've been using up holiday so going midweek which is quieter but there are still a...
