Perhaps the splash of a feeder is better suited to rivers that have a higher density of fish, where shoaling fish have competition for food?
Certainly it seems to attract on the Wye, but perhaps not so much on the WA and similar. The latter river leaving the rig in place long enough is...
I always use as light a lead as possible, anything more than an ounce and half feels clunky. Obviously I have to scale up if needed.
As far as length of hooklink a lighter lead can enable a shorter hooklength and by keeping the tip down solves a problem.
I have found some old pebble weights...
100% agree Barry, if the Barbel are not in any numbers and not competitively feeding then feeding large amounts of any feed is counter productive.
We are increasing searching out solitary fish where perhaps a single bait surrounded by a small package of feed is better. This is why pva is so...

You would think the effort applied by rod manufacturers would count more than these expensive custom rods.
OK I could afford a...
All my bigger Barbel have fallen to meat, as soon as I reach for the meat I think OK no more Mr nice guy you have had the starters now for the main course.
My last was 2x8 mm Hinders, and before that Sonubait 'O' Spicy Sausage I think, which proves nothing except Barbel are less concerned about these things than we are.
