New Drennan 1.5lb Barbel Rods

Just seen the short video for the 2 new rods in the Barbel line up

I've already got the current 1.5lb Specimen rod so I'm wondering what difference in action we'll see in the 'Barbel' version of the same test curve?

Love my 11ft 1.5lb Specimen. Really light and well balanced for a pound and half rod. Been using it as a summer Chub and Barbel rod on the W.Avon

If the test ratings are the same as your other drennans, then I can't see a difference in actions personally.

Only going on the various quiver/Avon drennans I have, where I can't see any noticeable differences. As long as the lengths are the same. 😊

I thought the same when they released the bream and tench rods, surely same blank as the barbel version but without a white painted tip?

I'll still have a waggle of one of the new 1.5 Barbel rods if my local dealer gets some in which I think he will.

Completely different carbon used in the blanks you can see the difference and the tench and bream rods have a faster action to aid casting.

I do wonder if the Drennan tench and bream rod would actually make a half decent barbel rod with a bit more low end grunt and sensitive tip. Having said that the new Drennan barbel rod in the videos look a little more mid action rather than through.

According to Drennan the new 1.5 and 2.0 Barbel rods are faster action and more tippy over the Specimen range

So different action to the current barbel rods, not sure why they would change th action?

Will that put the new 2.0 barbel rod very similar to the 2.0 tench and bream?

Just had a look at the new 1.5lb & 2lb barbel rods. The 1.5lb barbel rod is alot more powerful and heavier than the 1.5lb specimen rod. The 1.5lb & 1.75lb version has single legged guides on the tip section where the 2lb & 2.25lb have double legged guides. No hook keepers on the all the barbel rods. Where as all the other rods in the specimen/specialist range have. I just think now the whole range of drennan specialist rods are now a complete mess.
