Rather than use a hair rig, before you go fishing just glue your pellets at regular intervals along an elastic band.
Once on the bank just cut the elastic band and put your hook through it.
No messing with glue, hairstops or anything like that, and costs nothing!!

I haven't specifically done any trotting for Barbel although I have caught them when fishing for silvers using my Normark Titan.
I consider 13ft a minimum length for a rod used for trotting and actually prefer one longer than that for the float control it gives you!!

When I first started fishing the upper part of the river this type of weed was never a problem.
Over the last four years the problem has got worse and worse rendering most swims unfishable on the bits that I fish.
One of my favourite swims is a mid-river cast which is just impossble to fish...
