This is my actual PB - a 16lb 2oz fish caught from Hants Avon back in 2009. Thought I'd never be able to beat it but then came across some fishing up the A1(M) where apparently there were multiple fish that were bigger. Lost one of the very biggest when I'd had it on for ages and had almost had...
Hello - fake casters on a short hooklink with a feeder can work well if theres lots of nuisance silvers - do a normal hair and put three fake casters on before pushing the hair back through the eye of the hook (something like a 14) before blobbing it with a lighter. It's too big for the small...
Does anybody remember the controversial tale written by an angler who was barbel fishing in what was Yugoslavia (or somewhere similar) back in the 80's? I seem to remember he wrote of huge (16lb+) Barbel caught that were unheard of at the time, but was then had his tales doubted by all and...
10-15 years ago on one of my first trips to the Royalty I booked the Parlour Pool. There wasn't a barbel to be seen but by the sill of the weir I could see 3 perch that were all huge, but the biggest basically looked like a green carp with stripes.
No idea about carping but my own experience of using Armamesh when Barbel fishing on the Colne was that even a hard hookbait would only last 30-45mins max when the crays were around. They'd nip away at the mesh and even when double layering it the little b******** would still get through. Oddly...
Oddest thing I've seen was someone pouring hot water into a flask and 'warming' their luncheon meat in a baitbox before putting it on the hair. Not sure whether they were trying to encourage the oil seepage, to get an edge by having a bait that was a warmer than the surrounding water (presumably...
I've had a few rods from Mark and they've all been top notch. I much prefer the 11ft Torrix to the 12ft which (even though it's the same TC) as the 11ft felt much softer. I use the 11ft for rolling meat and it's unbelievably light and sensitive but with huge power.
It's ridiculous that he's claimed it, doesn't know how to hold it in any case and everyone knows that the meadow by St Agnes on the Purlpit is where it was caught and I'd never fish it, it's a mug 20 anyway and records are for losers and now where's my sat nav?
Of course I'd claim it, well done...
I lost a year of life chasing a dream on the Ivel and it sucked the love of barbel fishing out of me. On one session the fishermen either side of me had both held the barbel record at one stage, and just a couple of swims down was the Perch record holder. To top it all this all took place a...
They've had a few to put a bend in them! Much tougher now though, sadly it looks like the hot summer last year might have had big impact. Hope all is well.
Bill - I will definitely take you up on that very kind offer and if the ride in good condition I’ll give you a bit more than £85. Let me know when you’re next down Bath way and we can arrange to meet. I am up in London fairly regularly if that’s easier?
Hello - it's been a while since the last thread on this topic so here goes.... I am in the market for a travel rod. I'll be fishing for big chub but would need the ability to deal with a decent barbel if one came along.
It seems that the good ole John Wilson Avon Quiver is still going strong...
