    Trent advice location?

Not a problem, I've been down fishing and have it sorted now guys. Just wanted a bit of a head up before a trip or two really. Rich.

    Trent advice location?

I don't take asking people for swim location likely, but I've been around the forum some years now and hope you some know and trust me? I've managed to get a ticket of the Notts Federation and have the Viaduct beat on the book. I'm not after barbel this season, but would like a big chub. So if...

June 16 and why I am upset

The week before the start, I saw two anglers fishing a little stream near the Trent. Honest I really took five minutes thinking what should I do? I did nothing, call me if you like, but on your own against two young blokes what can you do. The Police are just not interested, the EA are not...

    Extra large hemp?

Does anyone know where you can buy this at a reasonable price, please? I've found some, but boy it's expensive. Thanks all.

    Lost my mojo

Just watched a wonderful video done by Martin Bowler. He was at an estate lake successfully catching carp on a float, just the one. It took two full days when he could have caught more on 3 rods on buzzers. Even Martin agreed too many people have forgotten what it feels like to 'strike' into a...

    Lost my mojo

I think you reach a point when as Bob mentioned, your chasing and competing for an ever dwindling number of fish, in a disappearing envioment. You catch less fish (in my case anyway) and have less fun because the gear is designed to catch fish, and some of the skills are lost. Like finding new...

Sitting it out on a single bait

Luke. Do you think it could be that your waiting for fish to past you. Do they live where your fishing, or travellers to that swim? I'm only asking not criticising. I use to fish a swim I thought the barbel lived in, but found they actually lived under s steep bank some 20 years past, not the...

Sitting it out on a single bait

Funny how we all see it differently, and then fish accordingly. I think those that use a single hookbait catch the odd fish because they don’t overbait, and it’s all the fish have in front of them. Those that bait and wait often catch most at dawn, and dusk if they are on bigger baits (I’m...

    Hemp

People say the the Barbel think that hemp are snails, I think they know it’s hemp and get on it so quickly because it’s small and smells great. The fact it could look like a small snail adds to their confidence, I’m sure. Boy all this talk is getting me excited for the 16th, must have checked my...

    Bivvys on the banks.

Bob Paul. I too fished with a large tourch, no rechargeable batteries in those day either. It would attract every moth, daddy long legs for miles. You could also see the water- voles in the margins. We used PETER Drennan windbeaters, that would rise high out of the water when a bite came, but...

    Lake record

Well done Mark, a stunning fish.

    Which mono?

You got some good advice there James. Just add with the price of Daiwa sensor, you can change the line every few weeks if your river is shaggy at all. While I only trott or lay on these days, I still change my Drennan supplex, as I believe nylon does wear, snags, sunlight, fish (we hope) dirt...

    Bivvys on the banks.

Just brought a flat back brolly from Preston, expensive for a brolly, but the quality is there to be seen. 40 years ago I’d night fish under a brolly often for a long weekend. Feet would be covered with a old army cape, so this Preston would cover all of you, at an angle too if you wished. The...

    Hemp

Hemp is very instant. It seems the small fish go down on it very quickly, and that draws in the Barbel. I’ve only just started to use the slow cooker, and it’s so much better. The oil seems to be kept in more, and 90% of the seeds open, yes much better cooked slowly. For Barbel trotting in my...

    Bivvys on the banks.

I'm pleased to see most of you took it in the spirit it was written. Those that haven't are probably still putting the tent pegs in?:D

    Bivvys on the banks.

Fished a local reservoir last week, it’s a day only water. I was really surprised to find the Carp lads with the bivys fully loaded for just a few hours fishing. Is this becoming a syndrome when the building of a home to fish from, is a important as the actual fishing? I’m not knocking anyone...

    Which mono?

Daiwa Sensor has all the attributes for Barbel fishing on the lead you will ever need. I’ve even used it on my pins, but this year have changed to Drennan Supplex for a try out. The point about Sensor it’s so cheap to buy you can change it several times a season if needed.

    15 foot trotting rod

I have a 14 foot Acolyte plus, and a Daiwa 13/15 Spectron. My thoughts are, the Acolyte is lighter in the hand, just. The Daiwa is more powerful if the Barbel are bigger 10lb plus. The Daiw offers a 13 foot for smaller rivers. Both are nice to play bigger fish on as well as small stuff. I would...

    Cat among the pigeons!

Steve. You say a whole piece that back up your claim, and then back again to me being judgemental, that sours the taste of the response? It's simply am alternative view, you don't have to try and belittle people just because we disagree. Its back to the suggestion I use light line...

    Cat among the pigeons!

Steve. The whole piece was just my opinion, but I guess until you try it, you will always have the same point of view. I have at least tried the heavy gear in the past, and managed to get past it. Truly I don't like trapping much, and prefer to hunt. Sitting with two rods in the air...
