    advice for a newbie

That would be where "Jeff" hangs out eh Neil? And all those 'Barbelgods'. It really is silly season on there currently.

    Best nite lites

I use two on the Lower, one if i fish the middle. I also use the Drennans, but i put the isotope in an Enterprise rod tip holder on my rods, they stay on there permanently.

    Pellet not Boilie Grinder/Crusher

I use a old blender, you can grind pellets into a fine fishmeal powder. I use one for summer paste fishing for tame carp. A skrettings or coppens pellet best, halibuts have two much oil in them.

    quatford river severn

Cardiac Hill was the Knowle Sands one I always thought. Both hills are pretty unpleasant though, especially after blanking!

    quatford river severn

I've a mate who fishes it. It's the same as anywhere else on the Middle, it's hard going. My mate had one small barbel and a few chub there on Tuesday evening. It's a nice stretch, lots of variety there. Short steep hill on way back.

    Luncheon meat

For "power-lobs" (good phrase Richard) with the hook buried in the meat, i take the hooklength off completely, and pull it back through the meat. A small piece of dissolving foam under the hook bend with ensure it doesn't fly off even in hot weather when the meat is soft. 30 secs on the river...

Stinker of a season. Thank god its over

Hardly label myself a legend Lee. I was just lucky with leave from work at the right time etc. Spent a lot of time on the bank. Roger certainly IS though, and as Terry S once stated, "he'd catch a barbel on a dog turd". And he would.

    Ridiculous postage

I use these guys for mine, usually do bulk orders. Wouldn't buy it from a shop....way too expensive! https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/pvafishingmeshmanufacturershop

    River trent barbel rods

Unless you're a complete novice, I've never really understood the guiding thing, parting with money to be put on fish. I'd much rather figure it all out myself, or at least try to. You're always learning different things whilst fishing anyway.

    Feeling the strain....Barrows

I use a Carp Porterlite 2 Graham. You need to weigh up the differences between one or two wheels, mine has one. Mine folds flat but the wheel will always take boot space up. Shame you didn't ask last week on the LS, as I keep mine in the car. Use mine to keep the weight off my shoulders, as if i...

    Line choice

GR60 is ok, strong/abrasion resistant, but is too springy and wants to jump back off the spool. Sensor for me. Cheap/cheerful.

    Are you a Backwinder or a Drag-artist?

I used to backwind due to my matchman background, but now I'm a clutch man also. As already said, I make lots of adjustments during a scrap.

    Strange Hookbaits....

Don't give him ideas Terry. They sold out of bananas on that weekend in Shrewsbury.....

    Strange Hookbaits....

I believe Roger Carswell, the Angling God of Shrewsbury, caught a double on a piece of banana a couple of seasons ago.
