Luncheon meat

Don't mean to be a killjoy, but there sounds like an awful lot of bits of unnecessary plastic getting lost in rivers, just to hold a bit of meat on the hook. Pull the hook through, turn 180, never needed to do anything else.
That’s a fair point. Certainly don’t want to be dropping stops off unnecessarily. That’s the beauty of the meat mate. You’ll always get it back unless you break off.

For "power-lobs" (good phrase Richard) with the hook buried in the meat, i take the hooklength off completely, and pull it back through the meat. A small piece of dissolving foam under the hook bend with ensure it doesn't fly off even in hot weather when the meat is soft. 30 secs on the river bed, the foam is gone.

I use a Gardner dipstick pot to glug meat either in c-stim or essential black snail just cut the cubes put them on the needle and leave for a few weeks... when I come to use the meat it has a texture of old leather and stays on the hair with a boilie stop ...and the liquid goes right through the meat

If you do want to put something under the bend when doing as Rhys suggests and also for hair rigs don’t forget the humble slither of dried spaghetti, one or two short lengths will buffer the cast, it will snap allowing the hook to pull thru’ if you get an instant take and if it’s been in the water a while goes all soft.....no plastics involved :) I keep a supply in my bag in an old 35mm film container (remember them?)

I like the small corkscrew things as well, seem to hold the meat very well for legering.
On the float just pushing the hook in seems fine

I use pasta too but the small butterfly pasta (Farfalle) you can get it in various sizes and works a treat as a stop and support for large baits like meat again without leaving plastic in the environment

And if you want something more technical you can slip a blade of grass under the bend of the hook before you pass it back through the meat. 😉🦈
