    New record

Yep totally agree. I’ve fished FG seven times this season and had one tiny chub, one small perch and a huge crayfish (I had my phone out looking up Thermidor recipes it was that big). Earlier in the year (Sept I think) I saw a large shoal of fingerling chub just down from the Bailey bridge. On...

    New record

Not sure about the stocking at KW but the EA still stock FG. I think the last time was 500 small barbel a few weeks back. Probably the main issue for those little guys will be surviving the cormorants which are prolific in that area.

Old centrepin - no longer required.

Howsabout an Advanta Discovery, the AD Okuma Sheffield lookalike? I think they were also sold as the Stillwater Severn when Chapmans were still about. 4.75” dia., line guard, very free running bearing pin. Caught me plenty of barbel, carp and silvers both float & ledger. I’d be willing to let...

    New record

Yep the article says it was a few swims up from the bottom of the members stretch, not the weir. Last time the fish was recorded caught was two years ago.

    Trotting rod

If you want to know the history, get a copy of this and brush up your Italian. From what I understand, the origin is similar to the link Ian posted; originally they used “canna fissa” (literally fixed rod, but more like a pole) then moved to “telescopica con anelli” (telescopic rod with rings)...

    Silt

Yep same. I’ve been distracted this season chasing the W carp (heresy I know) and it’s surprising how many barbel you catch in silty slacks, even the black stuff.

    Silt

Once on the Wandle I was trudging towards home after blanking. I looked over a wall at a swim I always ignored as it has zero cover and a very silty bottom. Right in front of me was a barbel feeding in the silt. I couldn’t believe it. I quickly headed upstream, cast out and saved a blank. Ergo...

    Centrepin line issues.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear, I meant Drennan FF used to be Bayer (I think) then they changed over to another manufacturer.

    Centrepin line issues.

Drennan float fish is an odd one. Used to be good (I think it was rebadged Bayer) then changed and was 💩

    Centrepin line issues.

I’ve had it happen before, usually as Richard says right after a fight with an angry barbel where the line has been pulled very tight and wound down into looser line underneath. Carefully trot it out, guide and unbed the line at the spool with your other hand then weave and retrieve.

    Fish Flix

I think there’s more content than it first appears. On the main video page it shows 7 videos & titles (Catching the passion, totally immersed etc) but if you click on one of these titles (eg Catching the passion) it shows 14 videos (A worm at one end, barbel banx, discarded, etc). I assume then...

    Combi rig - This season’s rig nonsense/improvement

Yes I’ve come across this a couple of times. Last time was with Armourlink, the braid wraps just wouldn’t cinch down and grip the fluoro properly. I think as @Terry Simner stated above, mainly due to the material. I think braids marketed as “soft & supple” often means a bit more slick. That...

Korda camo bolt and run rigs,

You should’ve bought the Korda ones ;)

Korda camo bolt and run rigs,

Blimey people do seem to be getting their knickers in a twist over this. No horse in this race but: £5 for a set 4 rigs so not really a fiver a shot. What has any of this got to do with Danny Fairbrass? It’s a Korum product, not Korda. Last time I looked Korum was owned by Zebco, Korda...

Korda camo bolt and run rigs,

As someone else mentioned, perhaps there’s been a mix up in your packet. Korum make these in a large and small size and there’s quite a difference, see pic below. The run ring is a tight fit over the rib, but you’ll be surprised how often it’ll be loose post-fight. They do work perfectly. If...

What is the ultimate setup for a long walk?

My top tips for roving: 1. Be brutal. Anything in your bag because “well, I don’t need it but I’ll put it in just in case” stays at home. 2. If using public transport, don’t wear camo or all green (else Joe Public thinks they have to see it, say it, sort it) This is my big roving kit. If I’m...

    Flavoured meat

I find if it’s been frozen & defrosted the meat can get very soft. As mentioned above be careful handling it.

    Ebay, fees from 1st October

No worries, I had to read it a few times myself to make sure. I guess they’re feeling the competition.

    Ebay, fees from 1st October

Where does it state that? “You won't pay final value fees or regulatory operating fees when your items sell.” What am I missing?
