Thanks all, I do fully recommend these korum opportunist rods to anyone thinking of using them for barbel, the play action is spanking. Didn't miss my Shimano's one bit.

Well.... 17 barbel and a chub on the middle severn my best day/ night fishing ever and it's only 6 30 am 4th of August. I'm utterly gob smacked, 10lb the biggest barbel, an oz under my PB.
Has anybody tried the esox piker rod for barbel as it has similar sort of tc, I was wandering whether the play action would be similar to a 12'?

As for meat goes, bacon grill is the way forward, well for me any way.it is firmer than luncheon meat, £1 a can from b&m or home bargains. Size 2 hook with lead wire for a bit of weight as the meat is fairy buoyant, shrink tube over the lead wire, and some silicone tubing from the hook eye...
