Rolling meat - some questions

I am looking for a method which will allow me to cover a lot of water. I will be fishing a length of river about a mile long, 8-10 feet deep on average, with deeper holes in places. I don't know whether it holds any barbel (it has produced the odd fish over the years) but I hope to find out. My intention is to wait until the river rises and there is a good pull on and try rolling meat.

I have a few questions for anyone who is familiar with this style of fishing.

1. is this method effective on bigger, deeper rivers?

2. How far out can you fish.

Thanks, Alan

Q1..give it a go.
Q2..as far as you can cast.
remember ,you may need a bit weight on the bait, toxic free plasticine is good and use braid.

As for meat goes, bacon grill is the way forward, well for me any way.it is firmer than luncheon meat, £1 a can from b&m or home bargains. Size 2 hook with lead wire for a bit of weight as the meat is fairy buoyant, shrink tube over the lead wire, and some silicone tubing from the hook eye about an inch or 2 up the line. This stops the braid cutting the meat. I can get about six or seven casts without the meat flying off. Oh and some plasticine about 6" up the line, hope this helps. Give it a whirl
Cheers
Chris
