I remember one day on a large pit where you might get a run a session where I had about 12 takes on deadbaits in the day. But each time the indicator just dropped off and about one to three inches of line was taken. Struck straight away - nothing, left it 30 -60 seconds - nothing. I did not want...
Try Bama Sokkets - but you might need a bigger boot. You wear them over an ordinary pair of thick socks. Sometimes you can wring sweat out of the outer layer but the inner layer is still dry and warm
In this weeks AT & AM there is an advert for a Matt Hayes Wild Low Chair from Dragon Carp (!). Not the Wild Rover Chair but the Wild Low Chair. It looks like the old Efgeeco Packaseat and could do the job you want.
When roving lure fishing in my small rucksack I have one of those low small 12...
Recently I borrowed a mate's scales to weigh a good barbel as the batteries in mine had died. 10:22 the scales read, which puzzled me, but apparently verified that I'd caught a double. It was only after returning the fish and returning the scales to my mate that I realised I'd been looking at...
I find its not so much the travelling there as the travelling back. Not so much the miles as the time. Leaving before dawn can be a trip of 1.25 hours, coming back can be up to 3 hours!
I don't like the idea of a wet slimy net down your back. I sometimes walk the barbel back to the shore with a waiting net, sometimes hand land them. Last year I had a brainwave. I screwed a landing net head onto my long extending bankstick. Then push the bankstick into the river where I am...
The best I have used are the NISA feeders. I used several types on the Wye and had various problems with tangles and twists but when I went in Woodys at Hereford I got the NISA feeders and have had no more problems. The only issue may be availiability - I have also bought them around London but...
Bama Sokkets go over a pair of thick socks - I use merino wool. Then you don't need to carry an extra pair of socks to change as all the moisture is wicked to the outside but you might need a bigger size of boot! Bama Sokkets are on ebay £8 post free.
I spoke to a CC Moore rep at the Carp Show and he told me meteor was being discontinued because it was their worst selling product so they were dropping it as they only wanted a certain number of baits and as equinox was their latest bait the worst selling was dropped.
I got some Canadian Baffin Trappers lat winter and have been OK so far but I see some shops are doing heat gel packs for both hands and feet which might be worthwhile when its really cold
I quite enjoy the canoes on the Wye. Both the barbel and myself are well used to them now. I usually fish 100 - 500 yards upstream of my mate and get them to carry all sorts of messages such as:
Tell the old bloke downstream that his mate has caught 6 ten pound barbel
Tell the the old...
I have several brollies. In the summer when there is not too much rain (!!!!) I use a very cheap 45" but for overnighters and bad winter conditions I might change to a 50" Korum stormshield with wings. This can be heavy so I also have a light nylon Leeda 50" for longer walks / days bad...
Caught a few up to 2.12 recently with fat bellies (CALL THE MIDWIFE!) and a 2.7 today was oozing a little spawn. Seems a bit early yet but they are at their heaviest now!
I have a few pins and so on a Match Aerial I have 2.5lb line for roach, on a Rapidex 4 or 6lb line for tench and on another pin 8 or 10lb line for barbel. One of the problems of a pin is loading / re-loading different breaking strain lines when you want to do some different fishing. Obviously...
I do quite a bit of float fishing for barbel and often there is faster paced water between me and the distant 'barbel run' that the float travels along. If I had the tip of my float rod down, the faster current would create a bow in the line and drag the float through the run too fast and off...
