The 90's matchmen used to catch them on stick floats all the time on the WDUAA waters, Oak Meadows/Lathams Farm etc. Might be easier on a shallower (for the Lower) stretch though.
Similar stuff for me Richard, albeit a bit smaller, two 14's, three 12's and a few smaller doubles, but I'm 50% on my catches from last season.
Joining the 15 club will do me.
I still use my Freespirit 1.75's for an 'in-the-fields' Lower Severn, I'm not really a subscriber of the flood rods thing to be honest. Too much is made of the TC of the rod, when really a proper flood rod should have bigger rings for the crap on the line blocking them. I'd go for 6000oc...
Agreed Ian. I've got X-aeros in 4000 and 6000. I use the 4000 for the tame carp match puddle thing in summer. The same reels certainly wouldn't cope for a raging Lower Sev with 12ft on it. The 6000 far more capable.
I use two on the Lower, one if i fish the middle. I also use the Drennans, but i put the isotope in an Enterprise rod tip holder on my rods, they stay on there permanently.
I use a old blender, you can grind pellets into a fine fishmeal powder. I use one for summer paste fishing for tame carp. A skrettings or coppens pellet best, halibuts have two much oil in them.
I've a mate who fishes it. It's the same as anywhere else on the Middle, it's hard going. My mate had one small barbel and a few chub there on Tuesday evening. It's a nice stretch, lots of variety there. Short steep hill on way back.
For "power-lobs" (good phrase Richard) with the hook buried in the meat, i take the hooklength off completely, and pull it back through the meat. A small piece of dissolving foam under the hook bend with ensure it doesn't fly off even in hot weather when the meat is soft. 30 secs on the river...
Hardly label myself a legend Lee. I was just lucky with leave from work at the right time etc. Spent a lot of time on the bank.
Roger certainly IS though, and as Terry S once stated, "he'd catch a barbel on a dog turd". And he would.
