Hi Matthew, What rivers do you fish? This will help people recommend something suitable. Personally, if you fish rivers like the Severn, I would recommend the Drennan Acolyte Distance Feeder rod. Plenty of power, and being 13ft will help with distance and keeping more line off the water. Sam

Nothing wrong with keepnets at all. Thousands of Barbel are caught on matches every season and go back fine. Any issues purely arrise from misuse by the angler.

Having got fed up of the points constantly going over on the Barbel Super Specialist hooks, I’ve changed over to the normal £1.50 a packet Drennan Super Specialist and Wide Gape Specialist hooks with no issues at all. I wouldn’t entertain buying another packet of the Barbel Super...

Maybe a bit more money, but the Drennan Super Feeder is my favourite Barbel rod and will handle anything you can throw at it.

Hi Derek. 95% of my match fishing is on the Severn! Don't fish many stillwater matches, they just aren't my thing at all. In fact, after this weekend coming, I won't be fishing a match until June!

I would of thought the back waters at Elton might throw up a monster or two, from what I have been reliable informed by a friend and the former river record holder.
