I’m running low on my supply of super specialist barbel hooks. Before I buy another load is there anything else out there you’re using that you’d recommend? I mainly fish boilie or pellets.
 
Take a look at the Drennan Specialist Plus hooks Ben. Can’t recommend them highly enough - hook point very rarely turns and a nice matt finish. Used them for a few years now and no complaints.
 
Get some curve shanks. When you've landed your first fish and try taking the hook out with your fingers (as opposed to forceps) you'll realise what a great hook-hold they provide. Cheap as chips from various ebay sellers.

Is there any bad hooks out there nowadays? Patern and size for your rig set up are perhaps the first consideration before witing down to manufacturer.

Having got fed up of the points constantly going over on the Barbel Super Specialist hooks, I’ve changed over to the normal £1.50 a packet Drennan Super Specialist and Wide Gape Specialist hooks with no issues at all. I wouldn’t entertain buying another packet of the Barbel Super Specialists now.

Very strong hook with a beaked point - stay sharper for longer than most others I've used.
