Free Spirit Float Rod advice... user experience wanted

Oliver i have used the 15ft extensively for the past 2 seasons. They are awesome on the float and have so much power to tame any barbel. My rod has caught in excess of 170 barbel since 2020 more than 30 doubles. But in saying that even a small chub or barbel puts up a scrap. If you need to know...

    Float rods

When you have a barbel on the fish isnt 15ft away from you due to the bend in the rod. I use a pole at 7ft when wading and not much longer from the bank.

    Float rods

Adam in my opinion there is only 1 rod worthy of consideration for the Trent Freespirit Hi S 15ft. They have ended the run on the 2 I have but should be bringing out a revised version soon. They are not cheap circa 350 but worth every penny. They handle barbel extremely well even in a strong flow.

    13 ft Rods

The main reason I have gone to 13ft rods are they give a slight reach advantage over the inside rocks on the Trent. They also offer a slight advantage to a lunging fish at the net the additional length gives a little more than a shorter rod. All in all 13ft has no disadvantages of an 11 or 12ft...

    PVA mesh

I use reusable cable ties get them off ebay for a couple of quid and either strap the mesh on the lead or swivel. After each cast just open the cable tie and go again. Its a very secure way of ensuring the pva doesn't drift off downstream before its fully melted.

    Trent Barbel Stocking

Just thought an update might be of interest barbel chub and bream were electro fished today at Averham on the Trent for this years fry hatching. Over half of the barbel caught had already spawned even in this cold spring.

    Trent Barbel Stocking

HI Neil yes you are correct the barbel are taken from 2 sites one is Nabbs island as already stated the second is further downstream at Averham. Without the restocking of the barbel in the numbers that would have reached that size from natural spawning it would have altered and reduced the...
