Everyone has their own view/opinion quite rightly as to what centrepin they prefer - as one of those “old handlers” 😂😂. I’ve used the same Rapidex reels for the best part of 40 years now (ledgering), they’re still going strong and have coped with barbel in excess of 16lb+. A truly fantastic reel...
Not too much I can add here (as a fellow Rother angler). Yes it’s an incredibly difficult river to fish for barbel and you may well go through a hell of a lot of blanks ( and I do mean a lot) before connecting with one, but the rewards are there. 🤫😄
Sad news but totally understand Paul.
Todays barbel fishing is nothing like you and I experienced on that lovely Kennet stretch at Rainsford Farm all those years ago before the otters moved in. Good times mate but sadly never to be repeated. Keep well Paul and all the very best.

Can’t go wrong with a Rapidex - have used them for 40 years in my barbel fishing (I ledger only), quality pin that has easily coped with barbel in excess of 16lb. Highly recommend this pin.
