Upstream for me!
A mate and I have doubled up in a swim quite a few times this year and out of the 7 bites we've had between us; 6 have come to the upstream rod. Not conclusive in anyway but backs up my theory that upstreaming is the best presentation on a river.

I dont know if things have changed but it didnt used to be hard to get the licenses to trap crays.
You fill out a form and the licences come. I used to have quite a few and Roy did too, Chris.

Obviously there is the normal sack type slings which all fold up tiny and are great but this one folds in half and is pretty solid:

Ive got a very similar looking rod and when it went off to Dave Lumb for re-ringing he reckoned it was a North Western Avon.
Floppy action and excellent fun to play fish on.

Might be of interest, very cheap and there are lots of patterns and sizes available

Ash
I had this a few years ago, moaned to Daiwa and they sent me out quite alot of freebies in compensation.
Ultimately stopped using it though and just used daiwa method feeder line instead.

It’s almost as if no one has ever watched an episode of Go Fishing? The edits are awful and it is so obvious that this stuff goes on.
Martin has been stitched up and from what I can make out in the clip the fish hasn’t even been unhooked to be rehooked.
Couldn’t care less tbh; if he’d left...
There is lots of emotive stuff from barbel anglers regarding barbel being in stillwaters; I reckon they just need the environment to be wet with enough oxygen and food to live👍
Its only barbel anglers that are bothered, and of course that is totally fair enough.
