    BAA 16lbe? ?

Many moons ago while wondering the banks of the Lea I came across an example of an angler well advanced in the dark art of BS. Despite the complete absence of scales and conveniently photographic evidence, said angler had managed to land four 12lb plus barbel plus several other doubles...

    coarse angling today

Hi Guys I used to purchase this publication regularly but with the usual contributers reiterating the same old information it became too repetative. However with the seeming demise of so many former good barbel rivers (just take a gander at the river reports) the editors would be hard...

    Three questions.

Q 1 Catching my first barbel on a tough venue, and it being my second largest of the species. Q 2 Despite considerable effort getting close but not quite reaching the magical 7lb mark for chub Q 3 To take the lessons Learnt from my attempts at bettering my barbel P.B and to achieve that...

Could the person who voted that barbel numbers have increased on their local river please pm with venue details. Swims and bait would be useful also. Kind Regards Andy

    Barbel Fishing and Populations

My local river is the Lea and due to the well documented " fish kill " a few seasons ago the population has, in my experience, declined. I also fish the Ouse and this river is but a mere shadow of it's former self.

    2013/1014 Season Highlights?

The highlights for me was just being able to get on the bank, having sold my soul to my employers. On the fish front i suppose catching a 6lb 10oz chub and then on my next session(two weeks later) catching a 6lb 11oz chub were as good as it got. Fortunately i was targetting them at the time so...

    Would you?

Depends on the significance of the capture (river record, exceptional fish for that river etc), but as my local river is nationally renowned (more for it's chub) & regularly has Billy Smart & his cohorts gracing the banks, i would recommend any publicity protects exact location. Kind...

Just squeezed in the 16-17 bracket with a 16lber on the nose, caught from a less publicised section of The Great Ouse in October 2009. Kind Regards Andy

    Respect

In all honesty over the last couple of seasons i have suffered a barbel drought so the 8lber i caught in July meant an awful lot to me. However i still hanker after the larger specimens. But it's not necessarily the size that matters but the condition of the fish that's important. Kind...
