Centerpin reel angling channel on youtube?

I missed out things about the better floats for fast choppy water etc, "which is the wire stemmed", and how they don't flatten out (lay flat on the surface) so easily as a carbon stemmed float when holding them back in fast choppy water.

I'm a total novice at the vids as I think is quite visible, hopefully ill improve a little as time goes on.
I actually have many fishing videos already, but the clubs i'm in have a non publicity rule. Also i'll have to try to hide any locations anywhere I go as I don't want to spoil other anglers fishing as well as my own.
Maybe I should have named the channel "the covert angler" lol.

I think you’re doing alright 👍🏻 especially as it’s something new to you buddy keep up the good work Ian 👌🏻
 
The video is fine Ian. The only comment I’d make is regarding float sensitivity or resistance felt to pull a float under. It’s actually a myth because the float has no bearing on how sensitive it is.
It’s all down to how you shot it. Or how much weight or pressure is left over before it sinks

You can set up a 10g bolo to disappear with the same amount of resistance as 4x no4 stick if both floats are dotted down to do so.

You get roach anglers going as light as possible on the floats to try and fool the shy bites and reduce resistance but if they were to think about it logically it would make sense that the resistance is only what is required to sink it to indicate a bite not what is used to set or cock it. In theory any float can be set up to be really sensitive

Yes, I agree Richard 👍.
After saying that, I usually leave all the sight tip showing on the river, even on large floats like your ones. On flowing water there are other contributing factors which allow me to do that and still have very positive bite registration.

I know its a mess and to make it worse still I caught bugger all, but it was a first attempt at making a video with a form of editing, not good I know lol.
How did you manage to try retrieving the line in the house HZ?
It would prolly work better if you were actually fishing lol.

The video is pretty good imo. I know editing is a pain, but you are doing good, especially the first try.

When retrieving the line, I lift the rod as much as I could, and spin the reel as hard as I can, and move the rod towards the float. It’s a classic method I think?
 
I’m going to be super critical Ian but i found this one detracts away from what i believe you are trying to accomplish

Your first few videos with your pins on the table are excellent because the information was there and it was focused on the subject of centre pins

This last one was to me was just an hour in your shoes. Way too long for me
There was no discussion or focus on the centre pin or any of the techniques you were doing.

15 mins maximum or people will skip through it
Run through your rig briefly
Change camera angles around occasionally so that it feels less like dash cam footage.

Focus on the centrepin a lot more as this is what the videos are about and cover the techniqes you use to cast, retrieve and play fish on

Thanks HZ, yes, winding in in that fashion is probably a classic techique.

Thanks for the critique Richard, to be honest I knew the video may be boring.
I did cut out a lot of the explaining about what I was doing and even a lot of the tiddly fish I was catching, it was a rubbish session as I expected.
I actually had a problem with the reel which was a first for me. That was why I had black oil on my hands and wrist lol.
I cut all that out also as I assumed it may have been boring.
just for reference, the problem was the reel became very sticky, wouldn't rotate properly. It turned out to be a small rubber O'ring situated at the base of the thread under the centre retaining nut. The rubber ring had split.
Anyhow, I managed to sqush it back around the nut and tighten it up so it "kind'a worked".
I need to get one of those rubber O'rings now, always something going wrong 🙄.

I did go out for several hours on the Tuesday in a different spot on the river, quite a rapidly flowing section so I might try putting a few of the clips together for a short video. It wasn't a productive session either, but as with the day before I didn't expect it to be.

Regarding the footage, I was stood out quite a long way in the river so I have no idea how I could have taken any other footage from other angles....ideas?...because the river bed was literally rock solid and quite a strong flow. If I put the go pro on a stick and shoved it into the bank i'd be a dot in the distance.

I'm just playing really, if it doesn't work out and people don't like the vids its easy to delete them and wrap it up so nothing lost 🙂👍.
 
Editing is time consuming, but vital to keep viewers interest. Shorter, more variety and information would be my aim.

In a small way I've resurrected my interest in catching a few moving bits of my fishing, mainly for my own FB page and more recently on Instagram. Only using and initial editing on my mobile phone (typically cutting the hours and hours of boring video), then using the basic Clipchamp software on my Windows laptop. I also still have my dated Adobe Photoshop Editor's suite which can do a lot more fancy stuff with bigger files and flexibility if required.

Even with just one camera source, you can shoot different views, angles and chats to camera. Then cut, join and merge with or without transitions. A lot of work but very worthwhile, just always keep the original file(s), work on copies, and only clean it all up/delete once you're happy with the final video.

Last Friday I found myself sat on a swim seemingly full of ravenous chub. Decided to try and get some footage on my phone. That resulted in large mp4 files (GB's!) and has taken a lot of work to get a few videos out of that.

A single 3 minutes of hooking and landing one chub, albeit nudging 6lbs, ended up as a reasonable quality 160mb video.

I'm still working on a sequence from well over an hour of video of chaos and havoc as I hooked, lost and landed several big chub. That may or may not find it's way onto YouTube, it's hard work!

As a result of all that I've started to look at different camera options and may invest, maybe with multiple mounting options.
