Shimano 5000

xtea for £50 snap that up neil real bargain that mate

Cheers Rob and Graham... I have committed to buy it, the seller said he might even deliver it from Bristol as he has a shoot here in Tewkesbury to-morrow  Don't think I will try and beat him down on the price then :)

On the advice re XTEA 5000 on here had a look on local for sale site and found a twice used XTEA 5000 for £50. :)

Do you think that's a good deal?

The wife thinks I have too many reels...wimmin eh?
£50, do they know what they are selling...

Well looks like it's a done deal, he has a nice mint super 2500 Shimmy too for £30, I asked what other gear he had and said he had a 'few' rods too. Dread to think what I will come back with:p
Actually have used this classified site before and bought a few items, got a unused Stradic for £60 and perhaps the best of all a Honda 214 classic mower for peanuts,
So much better than e.bay as there are less punters I suppose.

I'm in the same boat. Need a couple of medium reels mainly for feeder fishing, but would like the bait runner option. I've looked at Okuma V2s and already have a Penn Live Liner in the giant size. You can get the smaller 560L version from ebay.de for around the same price as the 5000RE. They would suit anyone whanging heavy feeders across big rivers. Metal spool and bullet proof build.

In the end I plumped for a pair of 5000RE's simply because I already have two that I am very satisfied with and the spare spools that come with the new reels will add to the versatility.

if i was you neil i would buy all what he as got cause there real cheap mate if you want to earn a quick profit ill give you £100 for the xtea

I have never owned a 5000 xtea but in the tackle shop a few years ago I one in one hand and a 4000D in the other. I chose the 4000D over the xtea for a mulitude of reasons and still happy with it. Some of the reasons were a bigger spool, great drag and imo a better baitrunner system. Anybody out there had the opprtunity to make a comparison?

the XTEA has a better bail arm.

I had a xtea and a 4000d. The xtea was a nice reel but just too heavy it felt totally unbalanced on my rods. Wouldn't of minded if I had a more static approach but carrying it just felt wrong. I only used it twice and then sold it I only asked for £40 for it done myself out of a few pound there. Bar the bail arm and I like double handles I much preferred the 4000d.

Okuma V2's are exceptional for the money, I appreciate cost is not everything especially when attached to an angry Barbel, but they have never let me down yet.

The Penn looks bullet proof, everything over sized a real work horse, and are very different to look at, but that seems to the trend to move from the mono look as is a lot of Shimano's, however I do think the 2 tone colours put off a lot of folk.

Not to up too speed on modern tackle and depend on advice on this forum, but must admit to having a weakness for fixed spools especially, to me they are a engineering marvel, and really make fishing so much more a pleasure, compared with what I had to put up with as a lad.

Got a few of both 5000 XTEA and 4000D.
Briefly:
XTEA heavier (noticeable) than 4000D.
XTEA more line capacity than 4000D.
XTEA spools much cheaper and comes with 2 as standard. Spares around £19.
4000D comes with just the one and expensive at £37.
4000D has a better clutch.
For me the 4000D is more suitable for my sort of fishing.

Cheers
Bob

That's my trouble Bob can't bear to part with any gear, I think yep I can make a few bob on that and just store it and occasionally look at it :) Sad really, not at all like your goodself :p

Unlike my Stradic I might want to use this reel, seems ideal for me, I will have a look at what he has and copy you if you want?

The xtea was in perfect condition as was the 2500 super, I paid £75 for the pair :) so very pleased. The seller delivered them as had a 'shoot' up this way so couldn't have a good rummage Rob!! but he promised me he will see what he want's to sell!!

picked up 2 penn liveliners in the 460l size for 120.00.......bargain ebay :)

Angledomaene by any chance? ;)

Reels seem to be cheaper in Germany than here in France and the UK even allowing for postage.

However, my local Decathalon has some Daiwa Crosscast 5000 at 61 Euros and Daiwa Opus Bull 5000 at 70 Euros. The car needs some work on Wednesday (yes, the garage is open on Boxing Day) so I'll pop in for a browse as the seller has cancelled my order for two new 5000 Aeros due to running out of stock.

Make sure you see the Crosscast in the flesh before buying. The number might suggest that it's a similar size to a 5000 sized Baitrunner, it's not. It's a smallish "big pit" reel but it still lives up to the name. IIRC the Opus Bull is in the catalogue as a sea reel. I suspect that it's a similar size to the Crosscast.

Cheers. I'll have a couple of hours to kill while they fix the wheel bearing.

Don't want to worry you, but there are no 460l reels showing in eBay competed listings and the seller you mentioned only has the 460, i.e non bait runner type on sale.

clive, i recieved em about a week ago. 2 x penn 460L liveliner baitrunner reels
59.99 each-2 available,so i bought em both.(item number 280973690210).
the listing ended as soon as i bought em,so maybe it aint on anymore.
they are now on my rods loaded with 12lb syncro xt awaiting thier first outing, very soon hopefully......:D

That's good news. I thought that you might have got the utility version by mistake. All you need now is some river bank that isn't 6' deeper than the swim you intended fishing. :D

I got the big version mainly to use as a spod reel that I could bring into use as a catfish and / or heavy saltwater reel if necessary. They are cracking reels in many ways, but I personally wouldn't want them as barbel / carp reels simply because I can't get on with the permanent anti-reverse. When bringing fish to the net I often misjudge the distance and have to back wind. I also play a lot of my bigger fish off the handle, preferring to tune the bend of the rod myself. Just a personal preference.
