Bit of advice really looking at getting myself a new landing netas mine at the present is only a 6" one so what would you lads recomend

Cheers

Sean

Blimey that's a small one :p:D

I've been using a Wychwood Signature 36" net and a Drennan Series 7 tele handle. Seems a good combination for me. As with most things you get what you pay for.

Sean also here are FAQ'S a great resource for any questions you might have.

Cheers for the replies

I know about the search but it is usefull asking as it keeps the forum live as if nothing is posted then forums die and also someone could have come on and said i have just purchased one of these at a bargain price etc etc

Why don't we have a 'board' on the site where the FAQ's are located and have stickies? Such as: best line, reel, rod, landing net, landingnet handle, lightweight chair, day shelter and rucksack to name but a few.

there is, sort of... but i know what you mean, it would be a good idea to have a board as apposed to a page. the best thing to do sean is go to a tackle shop. two weeks ago i brought a new landing net as it happens. rather than ask on here i just popped out, choose a net the size i needed and one that looked good enough and brought it. easy peasy ;)

Wouldn't forums be incredibly slow and boring without people asking what, to many, seem to be boring and mundane questions?
And good luck to those that have well stocked local tackle shops where the advice given is always 100% on the money. I know that I'll continue to ask and answer tackle questions on forums whether it upsets anyone or not.:p

To the OP. Have a look for the Gardner barbel spoon and the matching Gardner telescopic handle. Alternatively, take a peek at the Drennan Super Specialist Twistlock handle.

I'm in the market to renew my net & handle too.

I've looked at the Chris Brown ones which look bomb proof but prefer a spoon net which they don't appear to do.

After much research I've decided to go with the choices of Chris i.e. the Gardner barbel specialist net and Drennan twistlock handle.

Just need to ring my local tackle shop tomorrow to see if they stock them, if not then Matchman Supplies are offering free delivery at the moment.

Well considering i have recently moved from sea fishing back to fresh water i just wanted to get things right

I have seen comments on here from some which go along the lines of i seen his landing net and he must not know what he is doing etc etc

so i asked and did eventually get an answer but i wouldnt touch the advice of a tackle shop as 95% will sell something and say its right just to get a sale

I have seen this lots over the years and i thought these forums were where you could get sound advice and usually someone also tells you who is doing the best deal and so you save a few pounds as well

has anyone really ever brought a naff landing net ? my handle is 10 years old and i've never had any problems with it, and its nothing special.
when i went to buy mine i didn't need to ask for advise, i chose for myself. doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what looks right and what looks s***... in fairness out of the one i brought (abu garcia), the fox/preston/korum one in the same size would most likely have all done the job just as well. think i just liked the olive green as apose to blue/black colour:rolleyes: at the end of the day i'm sure the fish don't care what net you have. i nearly ordered from them over the internet but i'm glad i went in to look because the size i would have ordered was far too big.
and chris the questions don't upset/bother me, i just think people look lemons asking the same questions week in week out, some i'm sure just to get there post count up ;):D

super specialist handle and korum barbel spoon net. Does the business for me.

Yes, twice in the last two seasons. Like I said you get what you pay for.

People look lemons getting their post count up making debates out of topics they freely admit to having no interest in, Sam.

has anyone really ever brought a naff landing net ?

Sadly it appears so. My research yesterday revealed that some 'branded' nets on my shortlist have a habit of failing at the spreader block. Without feedback on forums such as this I would have been none the wiser.

Middy 30 plus failed at the spreader block on friday after 10 sessions.
Just bought a Daiwa Mission Carp/barbel/pike net for last nights fishing spreader block looks very strong but the mesh is ****.
I think I will be going for the Chris Brown rover and selling the Drennan ss handle and Daiwa net.

Yes! Previous threads on nets have turned up loads of posts of people having had poor experiences with nets, mostly with the block or thread breaking. There are other issues, such as flow resistance, which may not be obvious until you use it. The first net I bought for barbel fishing was a triangular one with a long net. But I found the shape plus the depth just got snagged on the undergrowth as I roved around, and the first time I used it in a flood, it nearly dragged me in. So i came on here, read a few threads, and bought the Gardener Barbel net. None of my local shops stocked it but it's brilliant for barbel fishing. My old one eventually broke while landing a mid-double pike and was binned.

But sadly way out of date as the threads are now 4 or 5 years old. Okay for tactics and technical stuff which doesn't really change, but for the threads on tackle, half the stuff is no longer made, the links don't work, and it doesn't include products launched in recent years. It was a great resource in it's day though.
