Hi Graham
Your almost right, it was indeed a very special night back in March 2007, when my fishing buddy caught his PB 18.10, which was a repeat capture of the 18.06 I had in Feb 2007, I said we should go to the pub to celebrate, he wanted to fish on, so I moved into a swim above him and about an hour later I caught the 19.02! What a fantastic shared brace - 37lbs 12oz.
Your right, word soon spread, in fact the next season the first person I saw said do you know there was a 19 cault her last season, to which I replied don't believe everything you hear! But the circus did move in.
Regards Wayne

Caught this one from the lower tidal trent a few years back. Pb each time first caught start of August last capture October. Couldn't get away from her 3 different swims well apart. A lot of the time had a field to myself . She went 14.12 15.3 15.6 and October 16.12. Was a nice place anything could turn up. Loved the place more so know looking back. Big tides and lots of mud ;^)

Great excuse for me to dig out a snap of my biggest beard!
I doubt I will get anywhere near catching one of this size again but the memory remains strong.
2011, Ivel, 18lb 12oz, double maggot.

The big lady of the ivel 😊
She never did grace my net personally but I was lucky enough to see her a couple of times.

This is my actual PB - a 16lb 2oz fish caught from Hants Avon back in 2009. Thought I'd never be able to beat it but then came across some fishing up the A1(M) where apparently there were multiple fish that were bigger. Lost one of the very biggest when I'd had it on for ages and had almost had it in the net. Could see clearly that it was absolutely enormous but it had one more bid for freedom and the hook pulled. My fishing partner had arrived shortly before and we both sat in silence for 10 mins. During the course of the fight I'd got in the river up to my waist and was drenched, but did have some chest waders in the car. I carried on and lady luck sent me a 14lb fish later on. After we'd packed up we went to the pub to 'celebrate' as he'd also had a 14lb+ fish. The pub was more like a nightclub and had some odd looks as I walked in wearing chest waders, but not as odd as they would have been if they knew I was flying commando underneath.

To be honest the fishing there sucked the love of barbel fishing out of me as the secret was well and truly out and it was super packed. I did almost beat my PB some years later on a different river but after casting out I handed the rod to a mate on his first ever Barbel trip. 5 mins later a fish of 16lb 15oz lay on the mat.... As a man of 6ft 8in I can say that size isn't everything.

I can't even trouble the thread poll with mine - 9lb 4oz, caught a couple of years ago from the Bristol Avon. But, I daresay, that probably IS considered as a specimen on the BA these days (acknowledging the record smashed a year or two ago).

I've caught a lot of BA barbel over the years, but never a double, even during its 90s heyday, when my previous best was 7lb something.

The hunt goes on.......

My fishing mojo having completely deserted me, I'm very late to this pb thread. My pb is well down in the pecking order of some wonderful captures already posted. My consolation being that it was from the Wye, caught on 9/9/15, and I didn't stop grinning for the rest of that month, weighing in at 12lb 10oz

Pete that fish holds some serious street credit there.
Not only does it look absolutely stunning with those arrow sharp fins but nearly 13lb from the Wye!!
That’s not down in any pecking order.
