whats your most used lead system??

Hi men,

Wayne , as I said above , the lead should lift off the bottom following the fish , and with a little nylon loop to break if not . Running rigs can actually drag along the bottom finding things to grab:D . Horses for corses , no one " right " way of doing anything , just my observation watching what happens up close in clear water , in real circumstances .

Personally I dont like lead clips, I dont come from a Carpy background, more a matchfishing/pleasure background. I dont think they release the lead easily enough, and for me SAFETY is the key, maybe its because everyone I have ever seen has pushed the tail rubber right down the clip etc. If its just used straight on the line with no rig tube, I find it easily tangles, thats a chuch/lob not an underhand cast.
I have my own rig incorporating a couple of tail rubbers, it never fails..... Just my take lads, no need to get the handbags out.

NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!!! Far too many anglers are scared of loosimg leads my tail rubbers are pushed over two of the grooves probably why i lost 20 leads and feeders but i never lost a fish or had a problem with the system another way id to cut the lead clip down as you say fish safety is the main priority mate!!!!

you lost 20 leads over the weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!! ?

Yeah mate fished a very very snaggy area mate every fish i caught i lost the lead but as i said i was only pushing the tail rubber over two notches and others i lost due to the snag also straightened the last of my drennan barbel specialist hooks out all 5 of them over the course of the weekend.

Its the trent with big leads mate i only use 6oz up to 10oz when in a really bad flood pal.

I got the Severn too, and it is at least if not better (or worst) than the Trent, and of late it's been pushing through like a train, we have been catching well on leads no more than 2 ounces, you can if you try and find the right spots behind trees bushes snags etc, undercuts too, how the hell can you begin to enjoy this art of fishing with 10 ounces I really at a loss Wayne...I have used lighter Anchors:)

Seems like the practice of using breakaway leads have transferred from Carp lakes to Rivers and IMO they do not perform as they do in still waters.

I could be wrong and stand to be convinced mind!!!:p

Tbh I'm not sure it's a good idea to be dumping that much lead into the environment.

I know why Danny Fairbrass always has a big grin on his face now though, he's laughing his way to the bank.

Theres not that many features in the way of overhanging trees etc on the tidal trent i dont really know much about the severn but i was using 6oz and that wont hold in flood. I use 15ft 2.3/4 tc rods its the only way i wouldnt feel undergunned mate. It is totally different than fishing the local slow river. I personally wouldnt even take a 2oz lead to the trent mate

Yea I know the Trent is featureless but the Severn is a beast in a flood, we have had 30 ft trees huge rafts of timber coming down for over a week, even if you could hold bottom in that you would lose everything to flotsom, so we have to innovate and we do, there surely must be refuge, even on the Trent as no fish could mantain a torrent without respite.

My rivers bigger than yours NA NA NA NA NA NA!!!! :p

I think that you aren't far enough east Wayne. Keep driving until you hit Skeggy and that sort of tackle will serve you well there. :D

I've fished the Trent and the Severn There is no doubt in my mind that the Trent has a faster flow below the weirs but in the bits above them it can often be static.
The Tidal trent can be a fearsome beast but most of the time that is also fairly placid, very often at normal summer levels you dont even notice the tide, you cant say that about the Severn, the tidal range is massive, up to 5 mtrs on a big spring, and the Bore is a sight everyone should have on their bucket list.

Seems like Clive won't be on your list of customers if you do decide to sell your big river flood rod Ade :p

Cheers, Dave.

I dunno. We've got cod in the sea and it might make a passable rod for the catfish kittens. Last time I used a six ounce weight it was boat fishing for pollack off Dingle. :D

On the subject of who has the biggest river; the one at the bottom of our lane, La Vienne, is 20 km longer than the Severn but only a third the length of the Loire. So nah, nah, de nah, nah to you lot! :p :D

Hi men,

Sues rod ripped off on the Wye today , and at some point in the fight the feeder ejected . Wether the fish would have got stuck or not we don't know , but a barbel in the net , minus a feeder does make you think .

LOL HAHAHA That made me laugh it started off from lead system to what river is more powerful lol. But tbh mate i really dont know much about the severn i just didnt think it was as powerful as the tidal trent mate. But i personally i like the way i fish the trent im just lucky to have a river less than a mile away with barbel up to 10 which i can enjoy the pleasure but when i get on the trent i take it alot more serious. You may have a bigger river but weve got bigger barbel na na na na na :D :p lol (its all in good fun)
Regards
