Trying To Travel Light

Hi Dave, It's not boasting and i'm not trying to outdo anyone.
The original post was about travelling light and i'm simply expressing my opinions and thoughts. This is how I fish most of the time and I realise that it wouldn't suit everyone.

My tadger however, is no doubt bigger than yours!

As for the camera/weighsling/scales.................cest la vie, if you are going to be pedantic about it, then why take a rod? The true "elite specialist" would no doubt get them out on a handline? Now there's an idea!

Regards,

Jeff

Russ,
Ordered one from Ebay it arrived today, just fitted it to my chair, fits a treat awesome bit of kit ! No more lugging a heavy brolly around
Thanks
Dave

Great stuff Dave!

I must tell you about my microphone holder rod rest some time - now that's one I'm proud of ;)

Cheeky sod :D:D

I just find all this macho bit...the boasting and vying to outdo one another in how little you take fishing, a tad tiresome. It reminds me quite a bit of the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore 'You call that poor' comedy sketches (a lot of you will be too young to understand what the hell I am going on about on that score :D). The difference is that those sketches were funny....this 'You call that light' bit is merely another example of the 'my tadger is bigger than yours' syndrome that is so prevalent in angling

In any case, it may well be that I require a seat to take the weight of a certain part.....no, I am not going there :p:D:p:D

Cheers, Dave :D

Too young? Sadly not:( Nope but I am still a bit agile, and the problem is that I still do take a chair with me, a Fox contraption c.1995 that is far too heavy, and rather disuades me from moving once I have nodded off in it. :)
But I have been given a Shakespeare Seat/ Rucksack from a well meaning non angler type who thinks I will be made up with her gift. But that is the dilemma, it really does tick all the boxes on the practical front but I feel that it is just one notch up from the big blue box:eek:
What does the panel think?
Should I risk ridicule (again)
or should I stick two fingers up to the Korum brigade.
No offence Hatter:eek:

"What does the panel think?"

The jury is still out...

"Should I risk ridicule (again)"

Go on Neil, we know you want to.

"or should I stick two fingers up to the Korum brigade."

I should watch your step there mate, the Pons will av ya if you ain't careful.:D:D

..

Go for the traditional approach . Cane rod , pin , creel with a few bits in , Kelly Kettle , unwashed tweed jacket [ suprisingly waterproof] , stick cut at the bankside for a rod rest , bit of cake in your pocket for biting on and you are away . Tried and tested by generations of anglers , minimalist but functional and I think you will agree the overall ensemble has a certain style and cache

I met with Chris a couple of months ago, at Salford Priors, what a nice bloke, wanted his autograph but felt that would have been cheap:)

Still, I think I should wait until someone on here actually admits to using similar.

Ahh yes the Chris Yates look...love it, but I would just end up looking like Wurzel Gummage:(

Hi men ,

Neil , you know how far me and sue travelled , this helped !

http://www.titanproducts.co.uk/titan-fishing-rod-sling-30-p.asp

We are getting old , I got the Misson glass armed lightweight brolly , but this is carried with the landing net handle inside it , held by the above .

Hi Mark,

I assume it is what it looks like, just a strap which binds your gear together, allowing you to carry it on your back?

If so, I guess it has velcro bits at each end to secure your bits, or something similar?

Cheers, Dave.

Hi men,

Yes Dave , basic really , strap with a loop in the middle as a handle . Length of Velcro strapping at each end , lay stuff in middle and secure . Iv had 2 rods , brolly , landing net in it . Better for just carrying in your hand rather than over your back , but you can .

Thanks Mark, sounds good to me. I was on the verge of buying a couple of velcro straps for holding my gear together while roaming, but this doesn't cost much more, and is a lot more useful :)

Cheers, Dave.

After spending several hundred pounds on rods & reels, the last thing i would do is strap a few spiked steel banksticks etc to my fragile carbon!
Most stalker quivers available from Korum. Chub & Trakker offer a degree of protection and weigh no more than a bag of crisps!.....why take the risk?

I had a Titan sling for my barbel roving but got rid of it. Rods & b/sticks rub together, not very user friendly as a bit fuddly to strap every thing together. I prefer my old Double T quiver...just split rods in two and put in quiver along with b/sticks in separate pouch.
