Torrix 11' blank & Peregrine's 11' GTI blank

Interesting stuff
Personally I am a huge fan of the 12’ 1.25Torrix for small- medium rivers / feeders
A bit of an anomaly as the top section bends through as you would expect , but the butt is similar in power to the 1.75 Torrix ?
Sounds wrong but an awesome barbel rod
The much neglected Dark Carbon is another brilliant blank
Love my 1.5 TC
Definitely more of a through action and sits between Torrix & Chimera I think?
All lovely blanks
I’ve just bought the 1.75 version of the dark carbon and yes it’s a beast. Definitely as stiff as a 1.75 torrix but with a more through action takes a lot of pressure to get into curve. It’s a glorious rod

I heard the dark carbon is based on ballista blank?
It was a long time ago I picked up a ballista and this was in a much higher test curve. I can’t say I notice any real familiarity but like I say different test curve and over a decade ago so I don’t know.

Dark carbon 12ft 1.75 reminds me of what a chimera 2.5 would be like if it existed. Something slap bang in the middle of a chimera 2 and 3 in terms of stiffness and extremely similar action and behavior in the way it bends. It feels like a 2lb chimera should if that makes sense.

The tip is quite stiff and not something you’d use to register delicate bites.
When you start to load the tip, with it being quite stiff the middle sections just follow it straight away from the off. It takes a bit of pressure, but if you load this rod the whole lot will hoop right over as a more through actioned rod but powerful through action exactly like a c3 behaves.

Assuming everything was scaled up and down proportionally, a 1.5lb 11ft version of this exact rod would be a fantastic barbel rod imo.

I’m late to the party on the thread. I own an 11ft GTI, it’s a nice rod, but if you find yourself in a near bank hit and hold situation, it can get a bit hairy, even with low doubles, to the point that I feel it’s hitting it limits.

I have previously owned a 12ft GTI and currently own a pair of 12ft Torrix 1.75’s. In this length the Torrix is the much better alround rod and is more powerful.

Far and away my favourite 11ft Barbel rod, is the Anglers Workshop Specialist No 1, rated at 1.5lb TC. It has a lovely soft tip, through action and it just keeps bending, it’s like it has a 2 stage action. Built by Kev Baine’s, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
He did retire, but I believe has started up again. I never could get him to confirm, which Harrison blank it’s built on, but it’s just awesome!

Is that a 3 piece, Neil?

The 10ft 1.75 is yet another I’m unfamiliar with and I’m pretty desperate to get my hands on one to try (not buy)
Hopefully if we get chance to meet up at some point Julian you may be able to help me tick a box 😀
Definitely Richard, not a problem mate. The rod is winging its way to me next week, can't wait for it to be used on the Kennet.... And a little cheeky fast swim on the upper Thames in an adjacent field that I shouldn't be looking at, but it keeps calling me to pop over to see it. Hence why a 10ft stalker will help to get me in there.... but more importantly out! 😂

I have an 11ft GTI 1.75 - made for me by Paul Whiteing- and a Torrix 11ft 1.75 and also an 11ft 2lb Torrix.

If I had to choose one of these to keep it would definitely be the GTI.

I would agree with Richard Isaacs that the Torrix is more suited to casting distances (which I don't do for 95% of my barbel fishing with a centrepin) but when it comes to playing action the GTI beats the Torrix hands down for me with a more through action, but not quite as through actioned as my 4 -piece Harrison Avon 1.5lb which is my absolute favourite barbel rod.
I saw Huanzhou's 4 piece Avon a year or so back, and I really liked the weight & balance of it!

Yes! Mark Tunley did me a dark green blank for a 11ft & 12ft Torrix Avon 1.25 that has a carrier section for my drennan Q. Tips. Great little feeder rod! But with the normal 1.25 top on, Mark reackons it has more grunt low down than a 1.5, Torrix. I'm yet to hit into a barbel on this rod, so couldn't definitively say that was the case. Great chub rod though!

I really should put that rod into more use this year😂, only used it as a deadbait rod with float for zander/perch in past few years. Only thing I don’t like about this rod is the stiff tip, not a problem for barbel, but I doubt it is a good rod for chub, unless I am touch ledgering.

The four piece Harrison Avon is a superb barbel rod. I've had my Dave Lumb build for a few years now, and caught some very decent barbel using it. A joy!

I digress but does anyone else here use rods built on the Evoke 12ft 1.75 test curve blank?

After seeing how beautiful they are, I’d use the blanks definitely

Brilliant barbel rod in terms of enjoying the fight and controlling the fish but clearly only good for relatively light payloads
I like with Rich’s 40g/ 50g feeders
I don’t catch huge barbel but have had a few doubles on them and lots of fish in the 5-8lb range which go like stink 👍👍
And a brilliant big chub rod as you say
