Hi Dave,

No, old fibre-glass pike rods with what I believe are known in the trade as 'big pit reels' (not mine, they belonged to my host). I said a few hail marys each night for my sins, and then doused myself in Guinness afterwards. It seemed to work.

None of my panda food would have survived the experience - Corrib is no place for a Wallis Wizard - and the first fish would have melted my Chris Lythe pin with its intitial run. Great fun.

HI Jon, just back from the Black Forest looking at a barbel river......

STUNNING. What a magnificent, beautiful fish. Don't think I have seen a better looking one of any species.
