Tench 2025

Evening gents,

Had a day session today, earliest I've ever been out after tench.

The water was alive with them today, behaving like it was June. Rolling, fizzing, in the margins, tearing up the weed beds.

I had 4 very welcome red eyed beauties

Thanks

Lewis

First Tench session of the year yesterday dawn til Dusk. BLANK, fished maggot feeder on one rod, method feeder and worm on the other and a boilie sleeper rod. Not a sign of a fish.

Only person on the lake should of told me something. :(

Able to start early this year for tench.
Had a couple last time out and 5 today .

Has anyone used ....Sticky bloodworm method mix ?
Mine was like sticky modelling clay ,did not break down at all , useless !

That’s an awesome fish Cliff.

I blanked this evening, did my usual routine… rake, bait and float fish over the top. Had an area about the size of a double bed fizzing like a jacuzzi for almost 2hrs with tench feeding but despite the fact my float was in amongst it and even being knocked around by the fish as they fizzed, I couldn’t buy a bite on worms, corn, pellet or prawn. Maggots never made it past the Rudd. Back to the drawing board :(

Tim.
Try a large piece of flake next time

I will do, it’s one thing I’ve not tried there yet. It’s one of those fisheries that will be prolific once it’s been fathomed out, I’m sure of it
It may even be a little bit early for the venue? I find corn 🌽 to be best early on, and only feed ground bait with just a handful of small pellet and the same of corn, changing to red strawberry corn once the bites slow down with the plain stuff, also big bread baits and mini boilies once the small stuff locate your spots can be good, I wouldn’t bother with maggots until later in the season. Mate 👍🏻

It’s a weird place, it is a bit early I agree, first trip I lost one on prawn, no fizzing, second trip caught one on pellet, no fizzing, last night fizzing like mad and no bites on anything. It’s just a case of working it out, I feel like I’ve currently caught by accident rather than by design if that makes sense, it’s a nice challenge to have while the rivers are closed though. Thanks for the tip on the paste, I’ve tried savoury, maybe sweet is worth a go next.

Sometimes you get the jacuzzi effect and no bites if you’ve fed too much and too many different baits? Just keep the particles to the minimum using what your hook bait is going to be but still use plenty of ground bait to hold em and to keep them working for the feed, also if you do try the brown bread and honey paste make sure the bread is stale 👍🏻
