Tackle bag stinks

Tony Carter

Senior Member
One of the disadvantages of keeping my bait in the same bag as my tackle is that it stinks now.

I've tried washing it with a buckt of hot soapy water but it still smells! Wish I had kept my bait separate in my fox bait bag but I have sold that now!

Any suggestions to make it smell less offensive, even the car smells after one fishing trip!

There is nothing you can do now save placing your bag next to something unspeakably unpleasant- a kilo of Stinking Bishop and some oatmeal biscuits should do it. What you really need though is a brand new tackle bag and some bait buckets. This is the only way your tackle and your bag can retain their alpine freshness.

Chop your bait contaminated bag up into small pieces and use it as bait. Use the money saved by not having to buy more bait....to purchase another bag. Sorted.

Cheers, Dave

left a couple of kilos of halibut pellets in my garage in a separate bag from the tackle then a big rat moved in..kept him fed for a while and he used my tackle bag as a dinner table as the pellets were up above it..soaked it in anti bacterial gear etc but its never the same so now its just bag to keep odds and sods for tackle storage:(

Make up some sterilising solution from the stuff they sell for homebrewers and use that.

Bigger branches of Boots or a specialist home brew outlet should be able to help.

While you are at treat yourself to a home brew beer outfit and get brewing. At 50-70p a pint you can't go wrong and now days it is as good as you can buy down the pub.

Washing and air freshening your Rucker, whats that all about ?!!, you'll be washing down your tackle after use and investing in high heeled waders next, blimey whats it all coming to :)

I have a smelly old tackle bag and a 42 year old Landrover 2a, which has a marvellous range of odours. I also have a labrador.

I would never play golf, all those silly clothes and as Oscar Wilde said, " It ruins a good walk!"

It's the modern way Simon! I was going to have a dabble this morning but just realised I haven't ironed my unhooking mat.

Tony - Seriously, I deliberately put bits of boilie into my tackle box/bag so everything stinks. This season I have been mostly smelling Krill.

Ill soak it in some comfort conditioner :)

Don't really like my car smelling like a bait box, or I could invest in a new wicker creel and a tweed suit to smarten myself up a the same time !
