Beak point, barbed or micro barbed hook that is super strong.

Size ideally 10.

A real hook and hold type hook.

Thanks Jim, strong hook but not got the beak point.

Used them in the past but on the Hants Avon/Dorset Stour found they needed replacing continually due to the gravel, "dinking" the point.

You might be thinking of the specialist, they are straight.
The specimen plus are beaked/ curved points.

Guru Super MWG are worth a look. Even the non-‘super’ versions are good, but have a bit of a brassy sheen to them. Whereas the Super versions have a nice Matt black coating/finish.

More traditional in sizes too. Although still bigger than their equivalents in the old school brands.

Landed me Barbel into mid teens, including my pb on a size 12. Almost half the price of a Specimen Plus or Carpy-brand hook too. £2.50 for a pack.

I've recently been using Preston KKH size 10, which on the evidence of snag recovery are a lot stronger than Drennan's Specimen or Specialist hooks, which come back bent. And I've just bought some Korum Grappler's in a 6 - they look a bit barbaric, but they'll take a bigger chunk of Spam than 10's.

My favourite hook in recent years. Unfortunately out of stock in size 10 everywhere. I was told gardner haven’t had the 10s for a long time. Maybe being replaced by the Gardner target barbel hook?

Their barbel hooks in size 10 are out of stock everywhere too! Got some on order with my tackle shop but might be a long wait apparently

Yeah that’s a pain. Both were out of stock in the tackle I went in, luckily the guy who works there gave me a packet of the barbel hooks in 10s out of his own tackle box. I think I still prefer the wide gape talon tips though
