Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Guys,

I hope you can help.

Last weekend I had all of my fishing equipment stolen from my garage (just outside Ringwood, Hants).

Whilst most of it is replaceable, I am stuggling to find a replacement for my two favourite Barbel Rods which I have been using for many years.

In case you come across these they were:
12ft Bob Church Stef Horak Great Ouse 1.75tc

I would like to replace these with something similar and loved the fact that they had abbreviated handles a matt finish and a great action.

Now unfortunately I did not have any pictures/receipts for these two rods so the insurance company are not paying enough to cover all of my tackle.

Does anybody know of a similar rod with abbriated handles etc in the £100-150 range? Unfortunately the budget doesnt stretch to a pair of custom rods in teh £200+ range.

Gutted for you mate , they want stringing up or taking fishing with a few bricks stitched in their pockets !!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Unfortunately they were either spooked or couldnt fit any more in their vehicle as they left a lot of high value kit as well...!

We now have everything of value in the house until i can sort the security out.

The police said that I am the fourth person in 2 weeks who has been targeted for fishing equipment. B@stards

All to common an occurrence, thieves often come back within a few months to get your replacements, your average PC doesn't have any knowledge of specialist tackle and all to often there are no accurate details recorded to help with investigations, taking photos , marking with ultra violet marking all help.

Try EBay and Gum Tree quickly and you may see the items.

normark nirvana light carp big barbel rods have abbreviated handles, might be available still. 11 foot 6 with 1.5 and 2.0 tips.
 
Tell the insurance company they were a couple of Torrix and then give Bob Gill a call.....that way out off ever cloud comes a silver lining.

That sinking feeling. Happened to me last year. Almost everything I had amassed over the years. They had set aside the rest to collect on a return trip which never happened so it was found by a neighbour and returned to me.
 
Happened to my sisters partner recently, as I reported on here, same type of theft from his garage in Chippenham.

Hope you get something sorted. will keep a look out for those rods.

If they want to rob someone try a Bank...COWARDS!!!

Have been scouring gum tree and eBay and will be visiting a few local car boot sales in the near future.

If only I knew when they are coming back so I can borrow my brothers dogs for an overnight stay in the garage :)
 
I do think that theft from individuals is one of the most heinous crimes. Most of what we own has sentimental value and is not always easy to replace. An occasion where Sharia law might have a deterrent effect. The stolen goods can only be moved on in a number of ways, car boot sales, stolen to order - very unlikely, or auctions.

Stealing from a large trade outlets, whilst not to be condoned, has less impact, the cost is built into the retail price and the stock simply replaced.
 
I agree with to some extent Jim but you are wrong in thinking that there is less impact when a large trade outlet is hit as the insurance company then puts up the premium paid by these victims this is then passed on to the customer by raising the prices of their stock to offset their loss so we all end up losing, hence the boom in thefts from private individuals.
The trade in stolen fishing gear is becoming commonplace and the kit is often sold as others have said at boot sales and online all we can do is to make sure we mark our kit with security marker pens take photos of all your valued rods reels and anything you feel is expensive to replace this include all your valued possessions for your insurance company and the police a photo is far better than just a description and you can also post to sites like this showing the actual items stolen I will be doing this over the next few days.
someone has obviously targeted your kit Richard I will certainly keep my eyes peeled at my local boot sales over the next few months for you !!!!!
 
I live at home with my mum amd dad and all my tackle is in my bedroom :D i dont keep the net there though simply because of that reason they want chucking in the river with chestwaders on

Hi Richard,

I had a lot of my tackle stolen some years back, and never saw hide nor hair of it again. The local police advised me not to bother trolling round the local car boot sales, because the thieves are way too organised for that to work. Apparently all the stuff nicked down here goes up the motorway to Birmingham and all points north, and theirs comes down here. I did look, but no joy. Deeply depressing.

I really am not a violent person by nature, and I don't have the size to make it work if I was :D........BUT....I did have some pretty vivid dreams involving me, a pick handle...and the guys who stole my gear, all together in a locked room. Sad, but true.

I'm lucky to have a spare room, mine stays there except smelly bait and boots, mats, so on.
 
I was talking to a rod builder the other day who mentioned that a couple of blank manufactures are looking at 'chipping' rods. He reckoned that it would work similar to chipping your pet dog using very similar scanning technology with 'chips' being located either in the reel seat or in the butt.

How effective this would be with regard to theft i suppose only time will tell...
 
Chipping rods - been around for quite some time.
I have some chips from years ago and still have them!
Found there was very little demand at the time.
On the surface a great idea, but have a feeling at the current time the idea is somewhat flawed.

i am so sorry that you have been a victim of crime, and i just hope you can get a result by going round a couple of boot sales, i'm sure it will be worth the effort, try the boot sales at Parley and Ashley Heath, be there very early this Sunday, good luck mate.
