Shimano 4000D or Daiwa Whisker SS2600

Looking for advice from somebody who had used both...

Basically want a slightly beefier 4000 size reel for a new 11' rod I'm having built up...

Many thanks in advance....

Neither I would go with a daiwa emcast br. Had a 4000d and the weak bail snapped. Had a 2600 and don't get me wrong it's a work horse of a reel, however is also a 20 year old design and to me felt dated, even with £100 of work to it from Gary at custom reels. Have sold both and now use mainly my emcast br or theory 4000sp but they're hard to get hold of now.

4000d for me all day long, I have hammered mine on the Wye for the past few years and it's bombroof. I owned a ss850 (for Perching) which is similar and there is no comparison in my eyes.On the smaller rivers I couple it up with an 11ft Torrix 1.75lb and it goes a treat!

That handle is for US market where it is sold as a saltwater spinning reel, the other style handle for the UK market seems harder to get at a good price, probably because it's aimed at carp anglers!
Don't own a 4000D, but do have several other Shimano models and an Emcast BR, I'd say the Shimanos just win on build quality but the Daiwa has a smoother clutch.

I have the less favourable handle on my four. I, like justin have given mine plenty of abuse and have had absolutely no issues. Great little.reels that feel really solid. They for me are also the perfect size.

Daiwa coffee grinder ok when fully modded,
Check the TDR or TDX range although these are more described as large match reels they are very very smooth and reliable.

ss2600's are great reels with a lovely clutch and great line lay, but the 4000D's and indeed the cheaper 4000 OC's are a class above imo.

You can buy them directly from Shimano. I have also seen some nice alloy ones on eBay that are a direct fit from China. These have a Duplon hand grip. Sells for around £4.75. I have one on my Diawa black widow 4500. Well worth the money as a replacement or upgrade.

Johnson Ross tackle £99.99 and got them in stock
