A friend of mine snagged and retrieved a rod and reel last week whilst fishing on the middle Severn.

If anyone has lost these, send me a pm describing makes etc and where you lost it and I will arrange to return them to you.

Someone in Brignorth tackle was moaning of a lost rod and reel at the weekend - maybe worth giving them a call?

Who is careless enough to loose a rod and reel? I'd stick it on ebay and give the proceeds to charity. Any angling club with a decent junior section would be my choice.

An Intrepid Black Prince - was that the one with the red check switch at the back?

Aahh! nostalgia ain't what it used to be

"who would be careless enough to lose a rod and reel"

Mmmm,,,you would be surprised I am sure.
Might happen to you one day and if I find it shall I "just stick it on e bay":p

Maybe someone could start a poll ?
Have you ever had a rod pulled into the river ?

I would stick my neck out and say 1 in 2 "regular" barbel anglers have experienced it.

I would agree.

Ah, how sanctimonious are the "barbel police". Have a search on the old forums to see how I was treated when I had mine pulled in - it starts somewhere here: http://barbelfishingworld.yuku.com/reply/221054/t/Re-Yorkshire-Ouse.html

And how two-faced - one prominent member castigated me for my misfortune, and then happily laughed when something similar happened to him.

<sigh>

It's a difficult one this & I can see where both parties are coming from. The last few days tho on the bigger rivers especially, clutches will be tightened to negate increased drag/the rubbish collected on the line, strong pull...

Personally, never yet lost a rod barbelling; very nearly in sub minus temps, unserviced reel seizing as the rod had been left out all night & that was only to a 6lb Barb...

Lost a rod carping when I was 10 in 1983 - a relatively fishless night, pouring down with rain, when just before packing up, at 01:30 off it & in it went. It was my dads tackle, cork handled 12ft glass rod with 440A Mitchel Match Reel - fortunately it floated & could just about see it being pulled out. Borrowed a workmans torch from the near by (senior) carp lake to wander round our own to find it in the margins with 7lb carp attached.

Fortune been on my side since & but to loose a rod now is pretty inexcusable - but sh*t does still happen from time to time, even for the best of anglers (not placing myself in that category neither) ...

Lessons learnt - make sure the rod is firmly strapped to the bank & check the drag.

Cheers, Jon

I had my rod smack me the other day when sat on the edge of a bank looked left for a second and it lurched up out of the rests hitting me whilst heading in a downwards trajectory. Caught hold of the end of the rod and landed a nice 9lber. It does happen from time to time and we can all lose focus after a bite less few hours.

Happened to me. Fortunately a mate was downstream and managed to hook the rod second cast and brought the rod in including the 5 pounder who was the culprit. I switched to baitrunners after that from Cardinal 55s, but still reckon it could happen. Those takes come out of the blue and happen before you or the clutch can react.

i had mine pulled in at holt fleet a lot of years ago & stupidly i jumped straight in after it, it was a chub about 4lb, i had a rod bounce of my rest a few weeks ago but luckilly it got caught up in legs of my chair,i was rolling a fag at the time, so now i roll them before i go.
