If only…If jail sentences were handed out to polluters then they would have to build a new prison just to house all the water company exec's !
Good idea. Sadly if such a vessel was available, then our delightful Home Secretary would have other plans for it...If only…
I’d bring back a nice, fetid and cramped Prison Hulk from the 18th century, anchor it up near me in Chichester Harbour and lock the Southern Water big-wigs in there. Ideally, coinciding the whole event with a touch of drizzle, so they could watch their final ‘floodwater’ turds of ineptitude float past from their barred portholes…
It is time taxpayers were given the opportunity to fund our water companies properly. They need to pay the hundreds ( or thousands ) more a year to bring the Sewerage system out of the Victorian age. If this sector is nationalised ( and I’m not against this ) it will require the same massive investment from tax payers. Will taxpayers agree to pay the cost? Some how I doubt it, most prefer to ‘ kick the can down the road . Sad but true I’m afraid.Good idea. Listening to Keir Starmer on R4 this morning and it seems his party has no plans to renationalise the water companies. He alluded to implementing tougher regulation and tougher rules regarding the accountability of water company execs. It is time taxpayers were given the opportunity to fund our water companies properly. I‘d personally have no faith in any of the mainstream parties to tackle this issue over the short to medium term. Remember that Natural Resources Wales (NRW), falls under the control of the Welsh Labour controlled Assembly. Out of all the devolved government environmental agencies, NRW are very underfunded and particularly useless. You challenge them on anything and the standard reply is that the Welsh Assembly hasn’t made it a priority.Listening to Keir Starmer on R4 this morning and it seems his party has no plans to renationalise the water companies. Listening to Kier this morning he wouldn’t even promise to pay nurses more if he was in government so maybe not the most convincing advocate on anything…..Listening to Keir Starmer on R4 this morning and it seems his party has no plans to renationalise the water companies. Yes I agree. I'm not sure that even with the collective political will that the issue could be effectively tackled in anything other than the long-term.I‘d personally have no faith in any of the mainstream parties to tackle this issue over the short to medium term. It's an indication on just how we view polluting / vandalism.I see that the farmer who destroyed the banks of the River Lugg has been released from prison. Sentenced to 12 months, out in 3. Words fail me!
He was also fined about £1.2m in legal & reparation costs.I see that the farmer who destroyed the banks of the River Lugg has been released from prison. Sentenced to 12 months, out in 3. Words fail me!
It bears no reflection on the offence committed. All sentences under 2 years in length are automatically served half in prison and the remainder in the community under licence and then subject to a period of post sentence supervision. It's an indication on just how we view polluting / vandalism.
