Record price of petrol/diesel

I got my first diesel estate 15yrs ago when diesel was 62p a litre, now:eek: cant remember what the price of petrol was when I first started driving 30yrs ago.

I drive a hackney cab for a living, the price of diesel is crippling the trade. I can barely take a day off to go fishing. Every mile i drive in my cab now costs at least 25p. 100 miles = £25.00 of fuel. In Liverpool, we,ve just had our first meter rise in 3 years. An extra 50p on a 6 mile journey :(. My nearest barbel river is the Ribble, in Preston, approx 30 miles away. 60 mile round trip = £15. It may not sound like a lot, but when your struggling to pay a mortgage etc, its hard to justify a days fishing. :(

Now i drive a large van for work and fishing and the fuel cost has definately affected where and how many times i go fishing. I'm lucky that i live on the doorstep of the middle Severn but my trips down south either carping or barbel, piking etc have almost stopped due to it costing £60/70 per trip. I love my fishing but seeing the kids through Uni is where the priorities are at the moment.

Last April as I was walking past a Perrys garage, I spotted a Peugeot 107 2006 model with just 19,000 on the clock one lady driver. It was in excellent condition. After a test drive and some haggling, I got the vehicle by walking in a few days later with £4000-00 in cash and a receipt from the bank showing it was honest money. I got a years warranty a new battery and a full service. Its excellent on fuel consumption. A few days later I got a Perrys Platinum card in the post which give me free MOT all the time I have the vehicle. At 75 I reckon it will cover the rest of my lifetime. On a recent trip to the Kennet I filled up in Preston then again in Newbury 14.1 lire's = 212 miles. I was more than happy.I had the rear seats taken out which gives me as much room as I need. I reckon the small car is the way to go with the high fuel costs which I reckon will continue to rise with the problems in the Middle East

Sod the price of diesel, i can remember when you could buy 8 pints of bitter/mild and still have change from a quid

The more fuel prices go up, the more tax the government make so dont expect them to help or understand..The main reason for high fuel prices is down to very rich and powerful people speculating how much they think oil should be,plus the oil producing countries delibrately limit how much they pump out of the ground..Then theres the lies saying that oil is running out just so they make more money out of joe public..Remember last year when oil tankers delibrately anchored outside british waters because the speculaters wanted to push up the price before they would allow them to dock?..WE ARE ALL BEING TAKEN FOR IDIOTS BY OUR OWN GOVERNMENT AND VERY RICH AND POWERFUL ELITE PEOPLE..Its only going to get worse and the lies will get BIGGER & BIGGER..Diesel is cheaper to refine than petrol, so why on earth is it more expensive?..Dont think it takes a genious to work that one out..
It would be brilliant if most motorists all said they will stop using their cars for 2 days a week, it would bring these greedy and lying governments and powerful people to their knees, but hey thats a dream that wont happen, the only thing that is definately going to happen is more lies and higher fuel prices..
