Just to add a slightly different slant on this thread.
I use Aventa Pro pins for my Barbel fishing and cast by using a Curtain Hook screwed into the end of a hook tyer with which I hold the line from the side of the pin whilst trapping it against the drum with my thumb on the cast meaning the line comes off the drum in the same way as a RW pin but from the side
This allows acurate casting but does induce line twist (with mono)
However I buy my line on bulk spools so if I feel that it is getting unmanageable I simply re-spool
Works for me although I know this will not be for everyones taste.
Afterthought:
If anyone considers trying this please be aware that on the cast you must 'Close the gape of the curtain hook with your thumb to prevent the line 'flicking' out and spoiling the cast.
