Quick change hook rig - Korda Hook Klips

I‘ve been messing about with rigs for years and think the Korda hook klips might be the way to achieve a rig where you can swap the hook over quickly.

I make a new rig up for every fish/recast as I’m wanting to keep a sharp hook in the water so these are potentially a great time and money saver.

Is anyone using them here? Any feedback?

I certainly would use them though I tend not to change my hook that much for sharpening it.
 
definitely believe the hook klip can be used with a knotless knot or a slip D
Beleive Pete Castle fishing on Facebook who came up with the idea shows various options
 
I'm going to give them a try. I would have done so already if our local tackle shop had some in last time in went in. Only downside for me is you have to use a kicker, which I don't really like on a river rig.

yes I agree but obviously the kicker is a necessary element to cover the klip part up and secure it.

Does it feel too big a rig with the kicker on? I’ve been experimenting with this actually.

I’ve been using ridgemonkey size 6 medium curve hooks. They’re massively long and they turn instantly. I tie the bait on KD style, one bottom bait and half a wafter on top to help the angle of the hook. Theoretically this means the hook point faces down when sucked in. I’ve caught well using this set up.

They reduce the number of chub and bream I catch because they're so massive and that’s actually been a deliberate tactic. I want the chub and bream to be put off so I can leave the bait in the water and not have to recast and disturb a swim. It’s worked pretty well I feel and it’s only the stupid barbel and they way they feed that gets hooked (9/10 I’d say).

They’re really sharp and have caught me some decent fish. But I change the entire rig so often I’m actually spending a fair bit of cash on hooklink material. Plus I like tinkering.

So I’ve got some wide gape hooks with shorter shanks. Then with the hook klip thing and a kicker added on the extended shanks end up the size of the ridgemonkey size 6 medium curve hooks.

That‘s the theory I‘m going to try out soon.

They are a great bit of kit , and I will use them a lot . Last year I was changing hooks on a session , using a spinner rig with a wafter hookbait so I could change hooks quickly , but if I had these at the time I could have used a neater presentation.

Barbel rig wise may be different as I never used a kicker on the hook that you used to cover the clip 🤔 .

Interesting. As a fellow tinkerer I can see some applications
Obviously they’ll fit bigger carp hooks but wonder if they’d go through the eye of smaller hooks such as 10s
 
Hook klip rig top and then a big size 6 curve hook below it.

if you look at the top pic I’ve slipped a bit of green tubing on the hook to try and make the hair stick out at 90 degrees like you get with the KD style. Not sure that really works. But the kicker is tungsten so having a wafter on the hair acting against the weighted tungsten kicker means the eye end of the hook will be heavy and this will help the hook flip to the best hooking position (thats my theory).

To me, its just another gimmick, there are much more simpler ways to change a hooklink ( hook ), that takes seconds. My brother, who WAS a river virgin, at this weekends fish-in. I showed him once how to change and try new things, he got it in one.

This is actually the opposite to changing the hook link Derek. It’s a quick change hook clip so that you can actually keep using the same hook link over and over and just slap a new hook on as and when.

I think it’s a good idea I just don’t think it works with my simple hook knots
 
I cant ever think of a scenario when I just wanted to change the hook ? If the hook lost its sharpness then a quick file with a sharpener sorts that. However, I regularly find a nick in the hook length material that necessitates a new hooklength, generally after landing a fish.
 
I'd certsinly consider using this for my carp fishing, not sure about for barbel though. I don't think I need a kicker for barbel (I've tried it).

Certainly an advantage to being able to change hook quickly, and to be able to reuse the hooklength, especially when using combi rigs.

How long do you leave your baits in the water for with filed hooks?

I’m leaving mine 10-12 hours. I used to sharpen them myself but without the coating they do corrode and most packet hooks are now sharp enough - any sharper and fishing over gravel or stones can ruin the point pretty quick, so literally defeats the point..pun intended.
