Photos of river scenes

Derwent (Yorkshire of course 😁)

The river Lot has been down to its bones after our recent heatwave. No serious fishing just now, it's hard on the anglers and perhaps not fair on the fish!
My brother and his wife visited us here for the first time so we had a chance to give them the guided tour. That usually invloves Cahors and Saint Cirq Lapopie. Lots of beautiful places here so we only managed a few of the best spots.
In Cahors we took them to the famous Pont Valentre, where the river bones were so clearly visible......

But it was fascinating for me to see a shoal of fish (barbel, I think!) in a trickle of water a few metres from a much better flow of water. From fishing experience of other weirs here I suspect the carp and silure would hog the best positions and displace the lesser barbel to the relative trickle!

I counted around 20 fish between the log and that larger boulder.

As we drove back up the valley we checked out the viewpoint at Saint Cirq Lapopie and another view from the river, a spot not known to many tourists!

Our guests were impressed, glad their holiday included a couple of days after the heatwave was receding!

I would be very happy with a week of heavy rain just now. I am guessing the barbel might appreciate that as well!

A few pics from home ground today.
River is painfully low,…we badly need some rain in both Avon and Stour catchments.
