Probably put up an autumn view of this swim already. Winter is less colourful!

After failing to catch a barbel in December I was having withdrawal symptoms. So after a day where it reached a very sunny 16c I thought I should give this deep swim a try for my first barbel of 2022.

When I got there the air temperature was about 4c after a frosty night. For a few hours I felt quite warm in the sun, the fish were biting from the off......

Two very good chub, one 3.8 lb the next 4.6 lb, came quite quickly. Then my first barbel of 2022 at 4.9 lb, I was off the mark!

I lost another fish after a savage take and short run, trace must have caught a rock. Probably a carp!

Stuck it out into the freezing darkness and had one more barbel. Not weighed but bigger than the first.

This winter fishing is not so bad after all!
