penn slammer liveliner cheap

It's each to there own really, if you aren't open to change with new technology and wish to practice the ancient art of back winding so be it.

Steve I knew you were a back winder as soon as I read your first post.

No it's not Neil. These lads (about my age I guess) admit it's because it's what Matt did/does on Total Fishing etc. How you can say that statement's rubbish ,when you don't even know who I'm talking about, has gone over my head to be honest  You're just another s*** stirrer too.

Sam you have taken a narrow view on this, you prefer to think that because some youngsters are influenced by celeb anglers it has to be a 'fad' or just another gimmick, it's not anything of the sort, I do know who you are talking about btw and well if you think I am a whatever then so be it , but listen up at times, I know it's hard when you are young and you think you know it all, we have all been there, trust me.:)

Honestly Nick you are just impossible, I reckon you own a 'gert big wooden spoon with all the stirring you do.

I tend to encorporate both methods, I think when I'm playing a fish (usually goes like a blur!) I usually flip the switch to backwind when it's close to the net. I don't know why I do that, I just do!

Not at all Paul, on here we may have disagreements about how and why, but as a whole we have a common goal ie barbel fishing. If everyone agreed with all it would be a very dull world. And everyone would support the same team.

Quite interested in the discussion about backwinding. I do it out of habit, and from having **** gear for so long, but now I have some reasonable reels i thought maybe I ought to try the clutch. Oddly enough was looking online tonight for a local commercial where I could try it out. Is the feeling that - e.g. under 4lb breaking strain it is best to backwind? Will a clutch work for low b/s lines?

i use the clutch even when fishing with 1.5lb bottom when stick float fishing for grayling, never had a problem

Hugh just adjust the clutch!

I think you are missing the point Nick, back winding can give you more 'feel' as to what's happening, certainly with lighter lines it would be essential for me anyway.

Of course I suppose if one likes to 'pose' then playing off the clutch might seem a better option :)

I disagree Neil. With back winding you are in danger of giving the fish to much lone, whereas the modern clutch keeps you in contact with the fish at all times.

40 years an angler and i always back wind even with big cats, never found a clutch smooth enough certainly none of the rear drag baitrunners.
