No Chris, i lost 2 fish, to a hook pull.

Does anyone agree with me that the price of hooks these days, is extortionate?

Oh yes. Many of the carp orientated brands are particularly bad. Nash probably the worst. £5 for ten hooks is OTT. Good job that they are good and that they were £3.50 when I started buying them. I suspect that terminal bits and bobs is where many companies make most of their money. Even boilie stops, a few little bits of plastic for £2. I wonder if they, including fancy packaging, cost more than 10p to make?
 
OWNER C5 X ISEAMA X-STRONG. Used these for ages and never had a problem. Mind you I haven't had a really big fish like some on here yet.
 
You can get some patterns of carp hook for around £7 per 100.........if you know where to look.
Bought up some old pattern Fangs for around £5 per 50 - that was a while back. Still use them now - rock solid hook.

If price is an issue then the Drennan SS at £1 a packet are unbeatable - use them for 95% of my barbel fishing!

If it isn't - the Nash Fang Twister is an awesome hook! ;)

I think anyone who really put some thought in to it would have to agree.... Recently had to buy some barbless hooks, opted for Guru MWG (match wide gape), an excellent hook, strong wire, nice beaked point.
Straight eyed not inturned though but because they're not designed for the specialist/specimen market rrp is only £1.20 per packet of ten.

Naturally no chance of seeing a barbed version cos the manufacturers know many will readily pay three times the price rather than risk loosing a new pb!
 
Super Specialists all the way for me too.

Never had an issue with an SS hook. If the point turns or they blunt off they`re cheap enough to change. I fish a very rocky stretch of the Severn and knackered hooks are a regular occurence so the idea of forking out 30 or 40p for a hook which might only last one cast fills me with horror.
 
You have to bear in mind that opening a hook out on a snag is hardly a fair test of that hooks strength. If the snag is a hard material so that the hook can not penetrate (as it normally would in a fish) , then you will alter the angle of pull, which will in fact open most hooks out.

Try it (carefully) on a piece of hardwood and see :D

Missed this post, Martyn. I was using Drennan SS hooks last season, but was getting quite a few hook pulls. I switched to Korum S3s and Gamakatsu wide gapes (don't remember which pattern) and I haven't had a single hook pull since. Expensive, but given the cost of a club card, bait and travel (especially travel), I hate to lose fish for the price of a hook. Although it might be the way I play em' ;)
