New reading material - 'Catch Cult'

Someone on another forum has just posted that there's a new bi-monthly magazine available, it's named 'Catch Cult'. A bit dodgy name wise but could be well worth a look. Take a look at www.catchcult.co.uk for more info.

Hi men ,

Good to see someone bringing out a new mag , hope it takes off . Got to say though , worse title out there , what were they thinking , and has nobody pointed it out?. Also the mass spamming / sharing on Facebook is getting on my nerves , but small price to pay for a new publication.

I'm with you there Mark - the title is pretty dire, as is the overly serious, non-smiling too-cool-for-school promo video.

I'll give a whirl though, the first edition has some good contributors such as Terry Theobald and Dennis Moules. £6 seems expensive, but hopefully that means the advertising will be kept to a minimum unlike the last days of CAT which was ruined by Nash.

It will be interesting to see if the advertising is kept to a minimum. In fact, it would be better for subscribers if this all came as part of the package on the free DVD's that the bigger manufacturers dish out these days.

Thanks men, some interesting comments here ;)
I thought CATCH CULT was a great title and love our little video. I can assure you we had loads of fun making it and I don't even know what 'too cool for school' means :)
I put Theo's last book together for him and he's got a regular slot so that's good.
Anyway, apart from a rubbish video and title I can assure you it's a quality product with some interesting writers covering a wide variety of fishing for the discerning angler / reader.
We will be pottering about at the Northern angling show and at the Barbel Society 'do' so come and say hello.
So much time and effort has gone into this and being a sensitive soul I might have a little cry later...
We are just 2 ordinary blokes trying to do something good so bear with us as we are learning as we go along. The first 3 issues are going to happen and then we weigh up if there is a market for CATCH CULT...oops sorry for that plug BUT if you'd put 6 months work in you would plug it like mad believe me.
Just give us a chance please...anyway I'm off to find me hanky:)

I've already order mine and don't care about the title as long as it's a good read and it's not all about carp

Yes mines ordered too. Missed a decent read since the monthlies demise. Fair play to all involved for giving it a shot.

CATCH CULT Angling magazine.

Hi all, intended posting about our new angling magazine today and see it has already been mentioned.
Rob Shallcroft (Editor) and I (Designer) have spent the last 6 months putting together the first issue of Catch Cult, an angling magazine aimed at the serious discerning all round specialist angler (or anybody else for that matter). We aim to cover a wide variety of fishing and would like a sea based article in every issue.
It all started as an idea over a pint and both of us are learning as we go along but we are determined to have a go. So please bear with us as we really are entering the unknown, particularly in producing an actual printed mag instead of an online mag.
Lawrence Breakspear is in the first edition with his 'Barbel by analysis' article.
The Catch Cult facebook page is up and running as is the website
www.catchcult.co.uk
I would like to thank my good friend Andy Frances and the team at BFW for allowing me to post here, I might even get him on the squash court one day1
Cheers all, Martin

Thanks very much lads, appreciated!
The title stays and we aint re-doing the video but there is some cracking material in the pipeline. We would like to have a carp article in every issue and that goes for sea angling too, would also like the odd game fishing piece.
New material is always very welcome so feel free to contribute and get in touch.
One thing is for sure, you can't please all of the people all of the time but it won't be for lack of effort.

Copy ordered.

Perhaps the title will grow on me...or maybe not :)

Glad to hear there will be some carp, sea and game angling coverage - should make for a diverse read.

Good luck with it. You must be doing something right to get Dave Lumb to give it a plug.

I'll post this on my 2000+ membership club's website, best of luck with the venture. Hopefully it'll get you some readers.
Sounds a bit like the old 'Angling' magazine, to this day I still do coarse, game and sea angling, pretty much all down to that mag. Glad there was a coarse close season back then.

Hi men ,

With the demise of the CAT mag there should be a market for it , I think there are more all rounders these days , especially on here , and they are your target buyers for a mixed specimen mag . I only buy one mag which is Carpworld , and the carp industry is served more than well enough with multiple mags available each month . I do get mugged sometimes with the odd Carpology , but try to resist , so with so much written about carp you need to try and get the specilists involved to be different from the others . River and canal carpers are the lads you need writing for you , or dedicated stalkers / floater anglers , something with an edge . Also a diary piece that flowed over at least the first editions , a story to follow , something people can relate to.

I was actually sat in a pub with Rob Maylin when he told me he was going to be releasing a new mag , when he said it was called Big Carp i told him that was a crap name , and he is still going :D.

I'd have to disagree with that point of view, what's needed is a mag that DOESN'T do Carp, Carp, Carp and more Carp. There's only so many ways to lie on a bed and wait for an alarm to sound.
If the new magazine can encourage more people to take up.sea and game fishing or different styles of coarse fishing it can only be a good thing.

Hi men ,

Paul , agreed , I buy carp mags because they are carp mags , but the post said the odd carp article , sea etc , well then if there is a need for a carp piece then it needs to be different to the rest .

Off the top of my head ..... Watersmeet , as its a mag where different styles , and species come together ( may have been done ? ) , good idea Martin , be nice to see what others chuck in for fun .
