Nash Claw

Look a good hook, I’m using Pallatrax The Hook ,still got a good supply of them , 9 outta 10 bites I need forceps to remove them they have such a good hold , what’s the hook hold like on the Claw ?

Even though Drennan supply the SS Barbel hooks which are targeted at our favourite species there is in my opinion a better Drennan hook for barbel.Have a look at the Drennan specimen plus,an unusual bend, very strong, sharp and with a long curved point rarely gets turned over on rocky bottoms.
Just had a look at them, never seen them before! I have always used the SS Barbel but since fishing the Ribble a bit more I have noticed them blunting a lot!

Hi all
I am a fox hook fan! Used series 2xl for quite a few years, changed to fox SSBP which are excellent, really good hook holds and the point doesn't blunt

Well .....,, all good things must come to an end.
this evening I dropped my first fish off one of these hooks and it was a typical river nene monster.
Got to see her clear as day before she spat that claw right out. Definitely a cracking double.
Gutted. ☹️
I don’t catch loads of fish and I wade through afew blanks to get the very special ones so it’s quite depressing to lose one as it could be a few more sessions before I get another

I’m afraid you cursed yourself Richard. Unlucky.

ESP Curve shanks have been the best hooks I’ve been using for a while. Very sharp and if you tie them knot less knot with the KD style hair kicked out they turn when picked up. So no need for line aligner gubbins

I've been having a bit of a play around with hooks this season and the latter part of last season Richard. My normal go to Guru has not let me down. I've tried other brands that haven't been as good so I've discounted them. But those Nash Claws look as though they could be something special. I've ordered some packets size 6-10 to give them a go.

I don't know if it is down to COVID but I am having real difficulty sourcing some smaller hooks; 12's and 14's in the barbed version. All the usual retailers seem to be out of stock and the only options are fleabay sellers with ridiculous postal charges. I'm down to a couple of packets of Drennan Super Specialist Wide Gape that are much too fine and bend far too easily for my liking. Looks like bigger baits from now on.

It would be nice to hear how you get on with them Ady.
I don’t do anything special with them in my rigs. Simple 8 turn knotless knott with a hair length suspending a bait 3-4mm off the bottom. I don’t use kickers or tube or fancy D rigs or anything like that.

Same basics here Richard, and I look forward to see how they perform.

Gutting, mate.

Get on the Hook by Pallatrax. Andy sells them in the BFW shop.

Im not going to curse myself ( 🤪); but these hooks and hookpulls from barbel do not go in the same sentence (except this one ).

Cheers mate but 1 drop in 18 months certainly isn’t going to put me off these claws at the moment. Hopefully it was just a one off. No hook in the world is completely resistant to pulls. I obviously only nicked her.
it’s all a game and the fish won this time

purchased some 6 and 8s will try them out on the ribble before i use them on the dove were you fish for a bite. usually use kranks .Richard do you use a kicker on your set up

Got a few packs of these following this thread and used all week on the Wye. Used ESP Trig Hammers too. One lost to each hook out of 32, but considerably more bites to the claw pattern, which could be coincidental.

That slightly in turned point is a winner though. One lasted a couple of sessions before blunting, same couldn’t be said for the ESPs.

Cheers Alex that’s awesome. It would take an awful long time before I could say I’d had 32 barbel on them lol.
