Martin Bowler leaving Drennan

I'd never buy a rod cause someone's name is on it. I buy what suits me. I have an aversion to Middy as I think their kit is Mickey Mouse and Maver as I never liked their poles

I own 3 sets of Barbel rods

Shimano Tribal Carp Floater rods.. The best non designed for barbel rods for the Severn, Avon, Middle Trent I've evwr seen.

2 Harrison Torrix 12ft 2lb, bought them to my own spec built by Bob Davis at Fosters

2 Korum 13ft 2. 5lb for the tidal Trentbir Flooded rivers

I spent two thirds of my working life in Fosters of Birmingham and certainly know good from bad. I saw so may anglers sucked into the "I need the new Dave Harrell rod / Martin Bowler rod / Des Taylor bait trap"

Assess what you need and buy the product you need not the sponsored anglers named product and you'll not go far wrong

I wish Martin well with his new partnership with Nash and hope he gets back to full health.
Just wondering aloud if MB’s health issues are a recurrence or secondary issues relating to him having contracted Lime’s Disease a few years ago. I think Lime’s can be a bit of a bastard like that and I’m not sure it ever really goes away once you’ve had a dose.

Martin is a superb all-round angler. Although I find his 'commentary' during his filming mildly annoying. Is it just me? I have always respected Drennan as a great supporter of specialist angling. I buy their products whenever I can because of their support. Certainly not because of a sponsored angler. Daniel Woolcott (see him on youtube) seems a top draw all-rounder. He comes across very well on the Drennan sponsored videos.

I think Drennan will survive losing Martin Bowler. In the "league" of specialist anglers, it would be interesting to know whereabouts MB falls. pretty near the top I'd imagine and a good name to have associated with any brand. Drennan's stable of sponsored anglers is nearly a who's who of the fishing world, including a five times world champion. They've got a certain Terry Hearn as well, and if it hadn't of been for someone allegedly dipping their hand into sponsorship money, Drennan would still be sponsoring the England match fishing team.

That's one way of looking at it.

Another, is that if Peter Drennan hadn't thrown his toys out of the pram because Drennan sponsored anglers weren't being picked for England then Drennan would be still sponsoring the England match fishing team.

I know which view I believe.

We’ll never know will we Joe.

But,

20 odd years of sponsorship and to ask where some of it went in the last few years, only to be told to mind your own business.

No 1 and 2 anglers in the match fishing world left out of the team.

Of the two personalities envolved, and having dealings with one of them, I know who I believe.

My understanding is that the AT accounts proved beyond any doubt that no financial impropriety occurred. In fact the only evidence that anybody was able to produce to suggest otherwise was an anonymous and largely illiterate letter which contained some baseless insinuations.

And the only reason this was given any publicity was because of the moron who purports to be a journalist on Talkshite. He letter issued a grovelling apology to be fair, but he shouldn't have gone on air without checking the most basic of facts.

The people who run the AT are good people who didn't deserve to be smeared by such baseless allegations.

Not sure I'll be buying it - MB or not Nash has been Gash for quite some time . . .
I think each company produces its fair share of both good and shite gear tbh.

I know Nash get a lot of stick, but I do have some Nash products which I rate, including the claw hooks, the dot spod and a 60L rucksack. My Titan is also still going strong.

Hypocritically I own one of their most expensive line items which is pretty good (Nash Metro Power Barrow) and agree the dot spods are also good . . .anything else forget it! Not sure if MBs endorsement would be able to convince me otherwise - assume they're looking to take some of the Korum/Drennan market share for specialist gear so if nothing else it will be interesting to see what is released

On the original subject, I am not surprised that MB left Drennan, I think Drennan is focusing on the match fishing not the specialist fishing.

Yes, Huanzhou, I agree.
I had a look at their website last night and it gave me that impression as well.
I don't know much about Nash, but a brief search suggested it was basically a Carp fishing concern, so I assume by recruiting Martin they are hoping to get into the "specialist" market.
Might be interesting.
