Martin Bowler leaving Drennan

I don’t know if it has been publicised well - I saw Martins post on instagram , that Martin Bowler - an angler that I have a lot of respect for is leaving Drennan and Sticky baits . Not sure the reasons why , and he alludes to a drifting apart over time , Drennan have been very quiet over this , but what a loss to Drennan . I was sad to see Terry Theobald leave , and now Martin .

Drennan have some seriously big shoes to fill there , and all i can do is wish him well in the future , it does seem that he has had significant health issues in 2022 so maybe that has made him assess his priorities.

Good luck Martin

I was quite surprised at this too Simon. That partnership has been going for as long as I can remember and I'll be honest, he is the main reason I buy Drennan products. From acolytes to specialist luggage. (Obviously it's fantastic stuff as well and aimed at the type of fishing I do).

I honestly think Martin is a true ambassador of our sport. His videos both old and new capture everything that is good about angling, and he is one of the all-time best, true all-arounders. His articles in angling times are still a great read even after all of these years.

I noticed in his video, he said that Drennan had not involved him in much product development of late and didn't seem keen on his recent videos. Maybe their target audience is changing, but I think that's a huge loss to them.

I am interested to see what he does next from this, and I am disappointed that Drennan have kept quiet over his departure. I would have expected something on social media wishing him well. But then again, there's two sides to every storey.

I don't think he's leaving Sticky baits though.. unless I misheard him.

He was fishing the Lower Severn yesterday.

No doubt a great angler. Some fantastic films and videos.

Unfortunately one of his fishing friends is a very unsavoury character with a number of nasty fishing related incidents, including being banned from localish clubs. I hope this hasn't reflected on him.

There's always an awful lot of comment whenever a well known angler leaves an association with a tackle company. I'm always at a bit of a loss as to why so many care. People change jobs all the time with barely a comment from anyone. I'm guessing from comments I read that some folks purchases are influenced by such well known anglers, but it genuinely surprises me that it's the case.

A🐟R?

Actually only BAA, Offenham, Lemington baliffs and the police will probably know him although he has been in a couple of MB articles in the past.

Anyway, I'll let this progress on the main subject and assume its not the reason. But if anyone controls clubs and is worried about him trying to join your club around midlands way however, send me a msg.

I have been a Drennan rod user right back to the early days of the float sets , original stick float and waggler rods , the purpose built detachable butt section pike rods and the superb original 1.25lb specialist rods , It was always nice to see one’s heroes such as Peter Stone and Terry Hearn involved with Peter Drennan , but I will say that has never had any influence on choosing Drennan rods or tackle , quality has always shown through - can’t say that I have ever had a bad Drennan rod , and I have never bought rods just because a name has been added to them . Some may be swayed by it - but I suspect that’s more for the carp rod world than any other . It’s a shame that Martin has moved on , but I doubt that Drennan are going to be unduly affected by it .

Drennan appear to have been making Daniel Woolcott their main alround specimen guy for the last couple of years.

Similarly - I couldn't really care less.
